Cool News from Zimbabwe

According to the BBC, Morgan Tsvangirai has been found not guilty of treason (plotting to kill Mugabe).

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/3744004.stm

In the same article, we learn "In 1997, another Zimbabwe opposition leader, Reverend Ndabaningi Sithole was convicted of treason and sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison."

Now be honest - how many of you read that second bit twice?

I look forward to the day when someone in Zimbabwe sorts Mugabe out for good. There is a good old Services phrase for people like that, but ! don't write obscene language.

Doesn't mean I can't think it though!

Thumbs up

Good news, as given Mugabe's record I really feared for Tsvangirai, who's a decent man IMHO. The Rev Sithole got off lightly too back then as Mugabe happily slaughtered 20,000 in Matabeleland just to get into power .

Question

Ndabaningi Sithole?

So who was Mr Abubuketefawabulayowa? His name used to be on the news years ago, then, just as the newscasters could say it properly, he was killed:

Alcazar

It was Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

Extract from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/low/world/49813.stm

"The fourth member of the team was Sam Pollock, who came from Londonderry in Northern Ireland. Each day he did what was always a very entertaining review of the Fleet Street papers, the national press.

Sam was wonderful company, especially over a pint of Guinness. But he did sometimes have problems with the names of foreign statesmen and politicians. One in particular, the then Federal Prime Minister of Nigeria, Al Haji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa. He stumbled uncertainly over that name more than any other. But finally he mastered it. Tragically it was all in vain. Not more than a week later, Al Haji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa was assassinated."
