The Da Vinci Code
Finished it last night. What a good book.
I hear it might be made into a film, which no doubt will be crap compared to the book as these things often are once they've been given the Hollywood treatment.
I'm glad someone is giving some attention to us Goddesses And thinking of other religions, women have always been second class citizens, why is this?
What do you reckon? Is the story true? Have the church covered up the real story of Christ? (I probably know the answer to that, 2 words - Virgin Birth! ) And does it really matter that he was a real bloke who had a wife and kids?
Great book anyway, made me think that's for sure (for a change!)

There are a multiplicity of websites pointing out the HUGE artistic lberties taken by Dan Brown, virtually none of which bother me. I just thought it was poorly paced, had wooden characters, and was far too full of improbabilities.
And WTF was the massive secret - Jesus was a bloke and fathered a child. Cue the biggest coverup in the history of the world, ever. Like that secret wouldn't leak out, eh?
BTW Jean Cocteau was NOT a Grand Master of the Priory of Sion ...... really got my goat that one.

Clarebabes: if you liked that one, try "The Word", sorry, but can't remember author, and my copy was nicked about 10 years ago, but a VERY good read.
Oh, and Hollywood? Well, if the book doesn't have a female hero who saves the world, it will have when THEY make it.
PC crap gone mad

OK, so, I don't know why you guys read books, I'm just in it for the entertainment value. And it was that...... No one said it was fact.

IMO, no, but then it's no less true than The Bible, and just as relevant to me.

It's by Dan Brown - just reading another of his; Digital Fortress.
As for the Da Vinci Code. Damn good read, don't care if it's based on fact or not. It'd put the wind up the RCs if it was tho'

I've just finished all his books, first I read the Da Vinci Code, this got me hooked so I read, Digital Fortress, Deception Point and Angels and Demons, all good reads and well worth picking up
I generally look at his work as being fact based fiction, i.e. there is a smattering of truth built up by the writers imagination, making a good read all round.

Hello
The Da Vinci Code is a good book, even though as mentioned above he does take liberties with any kind of accuracy.
Based on the book, I bought all his other titles. None of which are actually very good.
Steve.

Does anyone think Dan Brown loses the plot about 3 quarters of the way through his books? Have now read Angels and Demons and this one and it just goes off the rails.......
Not to say that he's not a good writer.
Lots of the book really make you think, you sit back and go "yeah, how cool is that. makes me want to go to Rome and do some sleuthing!!"
Clarebabes, if you haven't read Angels and Demons yet I suggest you read it next. IMHO it's a better book.
Gets the thumbs up from me
Not sure what everyone else is reading but they must have been in a bad mood when they read it.

Yes I do. Deception Point is a good example, relatively good idea, not bad characters and then about three quarters of the way through the book, the plot goes crazy and then has a lame ending.

Exactly....
**spoiler**
Halfway through the thing they decide to get in a small plane and travel to London. And then things go very dippy even though I knew what was going to happen
**end spolier**
Same with A&D and the thing running through the thing with the thing and then standing with the thing before flying off in the thing LOL

I read the Da Vinci Code and thought that it would make a good read for a journey or flight as it would certainly keep you turning the pages. In saying that the mechanisms by which he kept it lively and "going" started to become a bit tiresome towards the end. However, worth a read if you have a few hours to kill and you will certainly be entertained as long as you don't go expecting anything more than entertainment.
