Muslim Condemnation of Hostage Taking
At last, the Muslim Council of Great Britain are standing up to be counted by condemning the actions of the extremist groups. They have denounced the actions as "blasphemous" and are sending a party to Baghdad to try and communicate with the hostage takers. This is great news, and well done to them for risking their lives to try and save an innocent man as well as doing a great service to the public perception of their religion. Bravo!

But is it gonna sav Bigley?
or, is it just a diplomatic way of making general public feel that Britain made a compromising move but no further release on Iraq demand( keep US pleased as well!)

It sounds to me as if they are trying to improve the general publics opinion of such 'muslim' authoritive bodies in the uk.
While terrorism may not be advocated by muslim bodies, quite right too. i don't remember them trying to stop various peoples recruiting UK citzens to fight against UK and colalition troops in the gulf. Personally, I would have deported them for suggesting such an idea. But hey, we live in a liberal society right?

I can't see it as anything other than a PR exercise for the Muslim Council.
I assume you have read the reports that they all they are going to do is meet and talk with some muslim leaders over there to discuss the problem. Anyone could do that, lets be honest - except the racist muslims probably wouldn't talk to old whitey
Still, at least they ARE at last showing themselves as being part of this country, if only a small part.

While I agree it's a very good thing they are making *some* effort to secure his release I can't help thinking that they are playing both sides against the middle.
If they really wanted help the authorities in this country and in the US track down extremists I feel as though they could do a lot more. For example turning over to the government the list of names of people they know who are involved in planning or at least sympathising with such acts. They must know who they are(or at least can find out) and not doing so gives the impression that they are only paying lip service to whats going on.
I know of a better way of stopping the hostage taking. Just say, for every hostage you take we will bring in another 1000 troops. For every one you kill we'll bring in 5000.
If the UK/US etc really are in a war(which is what we are being told) then treat it like one. For example, deport and detain anyone who does not directly condemn terrorism. That's what we did in WW2. If we're not at war, stop pretending we are and let them get on with it.
My personal opinion is that our governments are using terrorism as an excuse to impose more and more restrictions and taxes onto their own people and this whole 'war against terror' thing is just an excuse for them to have their own way.

seems a bit twisted to suggest, but who's to say the muslim clerics wont get snatched also? .. that would put even more pressure onto the UK government if those emissaries get grabbed, then the muslim council go off on one to rescue their own ambassadors..has been known before
you think the media/people would learn after the beirut/lebanon wars a few years back.. seemed that every other week someone was kidnapped.
sad for the hostage/s and their families
we all know governemts wont play ball with terrorrists. certainly not for the sake of one relatively unimportant (to the government!) man who's death does not impact goverment/US foreign policy one bit.
