Data protection act: Do people not understand the concept or are they just stupid!!!
Had a guy phone up for support, couldn't provide the required security details and then goes off on one because I refuse to help him, as soon as I mention 'data protection act' he starts raving like a loony and shouting down the phone at me 'Don't quote that fukcing crap at me, i know my rights you tw@t!! Your service is fukcing disgraceful. I want to speak to your manager NOW!'
sufice to say I simply hung up on the t0sser!!!

Erm, why didn't you put him onto your manager. he'll probably complain that he wasn't dealt with properly. Mind you, if he just flipped out and swore like you said then I'm sure your manager will be ok.
NO is the simple answer. It's not exactly a very publically known law and most people don't know their rights or what the law means. Not your fault or your caller, down to the agency to inform people more.

I once had a call (On my Mobile) from my Credit Card company (Genuine) who wanted to ask me a question about recent transactions (you know the sort of call). They asked me to verify who I was but I wouldn't cos I didn't know who they were - The Girl was at a loss as to what to do - I told her I would call them .

I lost my rag with my bank once because they asked me to name a direct debit that went out and when I named one they told me I was wrong and refused to help me further or ask me any other security questions. I wouldn't mind, but I only have the 2 DD's on my account it's not as if I can forget them!

True story that still makes me laugh today.
I wanted a bankers draft 4 years ago for 5k so I got my account manager to organise the pick-up at the nearest bank to me at the time.
I turned up with my 3 year old daughter only to be asked for identification before they handed the draft over.
I had nothing with me so I turned to my daughter and asked her who I was. She replied " You're my daddy". The cashier handed me the draft and I left the bank.
