Cool Mountain bike bits 'n pieces

I'm looking at starting to build up a new bike in the next couple of months, and am wondering if any of you MTBers out there have any decent unused kit which you'd be willing to sell to me for a very small amount of cash.

I'm sourcing a deal on a Rocky Mountain Slayer 70 frameset, and will hopefully be getting some Fox 125mm forks for it too. I can get a chainset and mech etc for fairly cheap, and have a mate who can build me up some wheels. What I'm looking for is anyone who might have any decent unused disk brakes kicking around (perhaps as the result of an upgrade) and any other bits 'n pieces which I could use.

Donations gratefully accepted.

Question

Got a pair of wheels, Mavic 517 silver rims, stainless db spokes onto Shimano 2001 XT hubs, almost new, but not disc brake hubs. Any good?

Alcazar - thanks but as I mentioned I'm looking for disc brakes, so funnily enough any wheels would need to be built with disc hubs. 9 years riding on Vs is enough for me, thanks.

gljam - thanks for the offer, but whilst I'd love to stick some bits from your bike onto my new MTB, there's just no way I'm going to be climbing the black route at Glentress with a 52-tooth front chainring.

PG - not checked out the classifieds yet.... will do though.

gljam - Sorry, just realised that there were more bikes further down the thread. I thought it was just the roadbike.

Hi Mr Moose.

BTW MarkO, I managed to blow up my Hope M4s in the Alps, though one of those was accident-inflicted. If I were speccing from new I'd go with the Ti6 Hopes, but then there's a lot of me to stop....

Personally, I'd avoid Hayes - too grabby for my liking, and the lever creep is *desperately* annoying. You can fix it with threadlock, but it removes the adjustability you need if two people with different sized hands (i.e. me & Mrs Moose) use the bike.

I have a hardly used Selle Italia SLR saddle.

Carbon fibre and titanium...feeling aroused yet

Think it was £70 new.

Is that the 135gm one? Lovely, but I broke mine a few weeks back - not really designed for the more - ahem - substantial gentleman

Yep the 135g one. I gave it a few weeks but it was cutting my rides short...and my nuts!

Replaced it with a WTB Race V Stealth. Much more comfy

I know what you mean; they're cracking brakes for the money, but that 'feature' can be irritating. I'll probably end up going for some Shimano brakes - the XT ones are relatively cheap, easy-to-fit/maintain, and have <ronseal> performance. The only real issue with that is whether I can get hold of a set withouth having to go down the dual-action lever road. <spit>

Yeah, having had the luxury of riding all sorts of bikes whilst I worked at the shop (Orange 5/3 & Patriot, SC Heckler and Blur, Scott Genius, Giant XTC, etc., etc) the Slayer was the only bike that really seemed to cut the mustard and get the balance right between decent-travel freeride (I hate that term...) DH performance and all-day XC rideability. The fact that the 70 frame (with its black/silver 'etched' decals) happens to look the mut's nuts is just a bonus.

Oh, and btw, if anyone's interested in buying my '96 Kona Cinder Cone in the next couple of months, drop me a line.

It's a classic steel frame, and comes complete with banana-yellow Duke Race forks, plus the original (1997) XTR V-brakes, with matching XTR rapidfire shifters (still working as well as the day I bought 'em).

Bubba - none, but there's a few bits of my @rse that have 'become one' with my saddle.

I loved mine - comfy enough, weighed nowt, but getting a replacement in Les Gets was impossible, and the pricing would have put a mocker on it anyway.

I have one, 17" frame with a few decent mods. I'll list them when I can be bothered.
It's a hellishly good bike from first impressions....was a present from my parents.
