Question Am I allowed to do this?...

Hi

I have a backup copy on my PC of a promotional video from Subaru which was given to all original p1 owners. The video is 22 mins long and the original was sold on eBay last week.

I have someone who is desperate for a copy of it for his cars records, which has no copyright marks or disclaimers on it anywhere within the content of the tape or on the covers.

Am I legally allowed to copy this tape?

I hope you can help.

Jamie

if there is no copyright or anything saying it is illegal to distribute etc then what is the problem, its not as thought you are passing over blockbuster movie all you are doing is handing over a 22minute advertisement for the P1

seed it on bit torrent and relish in the glow of the goodness that you are spreading to the world via BTs evil cables.

Technically, it is probably illegal. (No I can't support that).

However, morally, Subaru are not losing anything as they are not losing the profit whereby someone would buy a copy from them - as they don't have any copies. So, if they sued you for damages, they wouldn't receive anything as no damage has been done. Unlike a blockbuster movie where you're depriving MGM (etc) of the profits of the sale of a film.

Of course, if the video has an official part no. and price, and they still have some in stock, it's a different matter entirely...

(All usual disclaimers apply)

I wont be putting it on any file sharing facilities, or emailing it to anyone, but please email me for more details if youre interested.
