Default Curry Sauces

Any recommendations, for the jar based curry sauces.

Personally I have just had a curry made from Asda's Vindaloo and it was pretty good, mouth still tingling 40 minutes later so it must be good, normally dont go for the really hot ones but it came on a recommendation.

I'm a fan of the Sharwoods range myself - the spicy tikka masala is especially good.

Also The Curry Sauce Co do some great ones, but they're waaay too expensive for everyday. They're a nice alternative to having a takeaway, though.

Bubba Po's ones are the best. But they don't come in a jar.

Patak's make the pastes that the majority of Indian restaurants use as a base for recipes; which makes them pukka as well as tasty.

That's the stuff, I remember people using it. Where do you get it from though?

All the bottled off the shelf stuff I find unconvincing. The Dunsfold sauces look tasty though. (albeit too expensive )

Very true.
A bit more effort using a paste but well worth it

I *love* the Sharwoods Bundhi oven cook ones - they are gorgeous!

Not sure which one I like the most, but they are lovely

Asda sell premixed spice blends which are excellent. I have yet to find even a curry restaurant with a tastier Korma. Have a look on www.asda.co.uk and search for "mild korma" or "spice blend" and you will see the ones I mean.

As for the recipe,
Soften an onion with some chopped garlic and black pepper in a little olive oil. Add meat (I use turkey, low fat and cheaper than chicken) and cook through. When cooked I always drain of any fat which has come out of the meat. Then add mushrooms (or anything esle you fancy) and 1/2 litre of fresh cream. Stir in 4 tablespoons of Korma Spice Blend and a small amount of sugar. Add a **** of butter and simmer for 20mins stiring occaisionally

For Rogan Josh, follow exactly the same recipe except replace the cream with 2 tins of chopped tomatos (cheap-Farm Stores 17p) and obviously use the Rogan blend. There's also Madras and a few others.

The chilli powder is excellent too, very hot. Again, the same technique but use mince and add some chopped peppers and tinned red kidney beans (10p). No need for the butter.

Bolognaise also without using a pre-made (expensive and carb/preservative/flavouring/sweetener loaded crap) sauce. Again, soften onion with garlic and pepper. Add mince and cook off. Add an oxo when almost cooked. Add tomatos (2 tins) mushrooms and grated carrot (sweetens it) and 1/3 pot of Asda mixed dried herbs (21p). Might need a bit of extra garlic so I usually add a squirt of puree (Asda don't seem to sell this now, but Morrisons do).

All these recipes are very low carb (Atkins friendly) and virtually free from any unwanted addatives. All can be cooked in under 30 minutes.

Enjoy.

thanks for the quick rep, will have to give that a go. Kendra cooked a rather lovley Tikka Massala the other night using the Pataks stuff, was rather yummy. Still need to take her for a 'proper' curry though, pity that the only realy way to do that is to travel back to the UK. The curry places here are ok, but still not the same as a good ol british curry.
