Personal Goals! have you reached yours??
Reading Mad Gypsy's thread with his new 911( cracking car mate) got me thinking about personal goals.
When I was 18 and saw the 22B I promised myself I would own a Scoob by the time i'm 25
Well I pick up my new STI in the states on October 25th at the age of 24.. so one year ahead isn't to bad.
So my personal "treat myself" goal has now changed to owning a yellow Ducati by the time i'm 30.
What personal goals did people set and have they reached them???

The problem is that if you actually reach your goals than there is nothing left to live for!
Just as well that as soon as you achieve something like that, another goal pops up before you know it.
Good luck with the Ducati.

Still alive at 33, set them low and dissapointment isnt a problem.
I could set myself goals that involve buying stuff and then go and get the credit, but I reckon the goal is only acheived when its paid for and not at the expense of other things, i.e. if you get a Scoob and still live with the parents at 30 it doesnt count.
Mine are,
Bring the kids up healthy and happy
get on top of the house, i.e get it how we want it
Still be alive at 40
Pass my Oracle upgrade exam
learn more
make peace with the dog, then get it put to sleep.
get fit

beemerboy, totally agree with the comment that you have to have paid for it in full to really have achieved it.
I have the money to buy the scoob outright, the problem is if i did i would have about $3 to buy everything I need for my apartment in the states!!!!
So its gonna be a lease for 2 years then il either buy it, or give it back and buy a new one outright.
I'm pretty sure when i marry and have a couple of littleuns personal goals will be totally different and revolve around my wife and kids and providing the best life i can for them.

I want to retire here, very soon:

Put a roof on it, keep a few sheep and cows, make my own electricity, cut my peats, take a few trout from the loch, shoot a few grouse and woodcock, make a start on my novel, finish some poetry and get my piano concerto finished.
It must be said that the way things are going with the piano concerto it isn't so much an unfinished concerto as an unfinished single note. That doesn't bode well.
It isn't actually as remote as it looks, about 2 miles walks you to the nearest road and from there about 25 miles takes you to town.

that picture seems to be "view from remote croft" rather than "remote croft".
</pendant mode>
as i have reached the grand age of 31, my goals have completely changed from the acquisitive ones of my twenties which were mainly "must get more expensive amp/speakers/turntable etc... must drive faster car". now my main goal is to pay off or at least substantially reduce the my mortgage. I don't want to be lumbered with it until i'm 55. i have set myself a target of paying it off in 10 years from now - we'll see how it goes.

I've had a many goals throughout my life, what i wanted to achieve with further education, what I wanted to achieve at work, what cars I wanted to drive, what Home Cinema setup I wanted to own. I did them all putting 60-70 hours a week in.
Looking back they were so unimportant, selfish and most were meterialistic goals.
Now I have a goal to get as fit as possible, not to get stressed, to spend more time with my family and be there whenever friends and family need me.
Why the big change?
A heart attack at 35, thinking I was going to die and all the support I got from friends and family during my rehabilitation.
Cheers

I never make 'goals'.....
I think to myself, yeah I would like to move to sunnier climbs, and drive a Ferrari. But I never make it a 'goal', you would just get depressed wouldnt you.
Has a 'goal' got to be pretty easily achieved ?
I dont think I get it.
I could make it my 'goal' to go to the gym tomorrow, it would still be a 'goal' wouldnt it. But not really a big deal.
Maybe there is a big differance between a 'goal' and a dream, is that it ?

practically all my goals are to do with powerlifting and bodybuilding. i tend to set pretty short-term (3-6 month) goals for this and it works pretty well.
the only other one is to be happy
oh yeah, and to at minimum double what i earn a year every 5 years.. thats the materialistic one.

if its ****-easy, theres no point in making it a goal.. just do it.
if it's way too hard, its likely u wont bother.. and will give up and end up depressed for not reaching some unrealistic standard.
rather than saying "my goal is to go to the gym tomorrow"... saying "i want to increase my strength by x% over the next x months" would be more of a useful goal imo.

I can understand Lee's changes of priority very well, it takes a life threatening experience to put things into a proper perspective.
Lovely picture Hedgehog, I just hope that when you achieve all that, that there are still some trout left. They are getting a bit thin in the water around here!

Most people seem to go for purely materialistic goals in their 20s, to more meaningful ones in their 30s+
I wanted to retire at 40, with the car of my choice, decent house etc. Was on track till I was totally butt fvcked by my ex boss and lost a huge amount of money, nearly lost everything, now am rebuilding with different ambitions in life. Cars are no longer important, stress free, paid for living is. Not ever gonna have anything on credit again, including a house. Just need to find a way of finding enough money to buy one

If I had three wishes granted I'd request happiness, happiness and happiness everytime. I think that feeling contented and happy in life far outweighs any materialistic possession. Yeah, you can show possessions off and wonder about how people may be thinking what a lucky s0d you are, but such feelings are short lived and really don't fulfill you deep down.
Yep, and I'm in my thirties so have moved on from materialistic wants I suppose. I know what makes me feel a whole lot better about life.
