Question Question for Milo and the gang

Can you eat raw eggs safely these days?? As a lad I remember the whole salmonela thing but now I find myself wanting to fire a few egg whites into a protein shake in the morning but don't want to do it if its unsafe!

Also, what cereal (or similar such) breakfast should you have on a bulking high protien diet! Is it not oats or something like that that most bodybuilders take? I looked at some porridge and muslea (sp?) and they were only 10% protien which is only about 3-4% more than sugar coated cereals such as Frosties, etc.

Eggs still carry a risk of salmonella. The risk is small, but there. As a young, healthy, and fit person, it's not going to cause you any serious issues if you ate an infected one (well, not fatal consequences - just some squits, maybe a mild fever).

It'll probably not happen, but the risk is there.

Eggs are safer now than when i was doing a dozen a day. Insignificant risk, as long as you buy them from a reputable source. I used to drive to the farm, so the eggs had literally just fallen out of the chickens' bums.

Porridge is ok for breakfast, but can be quite filling and restrict, from lack of appetite, your intake of better building foods later in the day. Muesli with yogurt is nice - worth a try. With fruit such as a banana, or strawberries in season.

i would advise against personally. i used to drink a dozen eggs a day.. until i got a bad one.

the chances are you'll be fine just randomly eating 1 raw egg.. but statistically if you're having a few a day, you'll get a bad one sooner or later.

scramble them (dont throw out the yolks) is the easiest option. better safe than.. sick.

oats. any boxed cereals have way too much sugar in them. stick to oats - they're cheap too.

if u dont like the taste (and arent man enough to deal with it ), blend them up and add them to a protein shake.

be careful is planning on eating them with milk. altho milk is an old school bodybuilding food, it DOES have a lot of simple sugars (albeit at a low gi level).

oh yeah, just to add as i think you may be confused about why we eat oats...

dont try to up your protein level by taking in oats or similar. oats are eaten by bodybuilders for carbs, not protein. if you want more protein, eat foods with protein, such as chicken, fish, eggs etc.

yes, eat oats when bulking.. but eat them for the carbs (they're about the best carbs you can eat too).
