Congrats to Chris Hoy on his 1km sprint gold medal.
Started off in BMX, and went onto track cycling. Happy for him.

Story here
Well done Team GB, we are moving up the medals table too fast for the BBC (of all people) to keep up.

its a pity that we as a nation seem to be better at the "minor" sports.
i know that not all sports are exciting to watch but why do we get extended coverage of sports where are national heros get tonked regularly.
well done to the trackies again but i expect nothing less with doug training them.he's from liverpool too.
cheers

Perhaps we should start putting more resources into sports which we excel at (aka minor sports) such as cycling, yachting and rowing so that we can fill the medal tables rather than throwing cash at say, athletics, where with the exception of Paula Ratcliffe we invariably get tonked by the rest of the world on a regular basis.
Mind you, no doubt some will say that yachting is an elitist sport that 'disadvantaged, minorities' cannot participate in, so rejoice that little wayne/waynetta from the council estate made it to the olympics but didn't win anything - "it's the taking part that counts, not the winning".

Well done Chris !
I agree that the supposedly minor sports are underfunded and largely overlooked : papers tomorrow will have plenty of coverage (rightly so) of his win but in a few days time cycling (a sport I attempt to compete in) will be consigned to the occasional few words if we're lucky even though it is one where we have had a number of successes in the recent past.
Why the media seems to give such a huge, huge % of it's coverage to football when generally the British teams are seriously crap at it (espec. my own country, Scotland) is something I sometimes despair at.
Maybe continued successes by guys like Chris (and girls - eg Nicole Cooke) might eventually force better coverage. Then again maybe not.
