Belly Loss Advice
I've started to get a pot-belly, probably due to 15+yrs of lager and stopping playing footy about 3 yrs ago.
I want to get fit, and lose the belly.
Made a start tonight, with 2 lots of 30 press-ups (inclined), 10 minutes heavy bag work (with breaks as I was going at it pretty hard), 5 minutes speedball (in one minute spurts, constant for a minute just about-very tiring on the arms), and 50 crunches to finish.
All in, 20 minutes exercise - with short breathers.
In tandom with this, I am stopping drinking beer in the week (usually have a couple at least, every night).
Will this work, should I do it every night, any other exercises that would do me better, and can I drink wine instead???
All advice appreciated, as I am not much up on this fitness lark.

Who ate all the pies ?......
You fat ba$tard, you fat ba$tard.....
Who ate all the pies ?.......
Sorry, just couldnt help it.....
My advice, which should never be taken, revolves around a banned substance called clenbuterol mixed with any amphetamine(sp), 100% fat burner.
You will lose weight, but it may kill you, hey, 'swings and roundabouts'.

well 60 press ups is nice for your arms fitness but thats about it.
heavy bag work???? very butch but 10 mins of anything is still only ten mins
speedball...hmmmm, at this point was eye of the tiger on full blast????
50 crunches will have improved the tone and fitness of your abbs.......which are still under the FAT!
You need to stop working out like some sort of Rocky 9 training montage and do a CONSTANT level of exercise for 30 MINS AT LEAST.
sell your bags on ebay and buy an mp3 player...then go jogging and take your Rocky soundtrack with you.

ps- you didnt mention but i assume you do some tricep push downs witha bag of rocks and an oak beam?

Well I did all that cause I used to box and I hate jogging, and it does get me well knackered, more than footy ever did.
I have got a rowing machine too - are they any good?

After having a heart attack earlier this year I joined a health club.
Bannatynes health club
Best thing I have ever done, there are so many machines, activities, sessions to do I never get bored and then there's the pool, steam room, spa etc when you need to chill. It's not at all competative and people are all shapes, sizes and fitness.
Problem with doing one thing like jogging or pressups or cycling is you soon get fed up.
I'd recommend joining if you have something similar in your area and start eating healthy, don't go on a diet.
cheers

I managed to get rid of most of mine about 4 months ago, but after injury/ill health its back again. this is how i did it the first time, and how i'll do it again:
Cut out alcohol during week, try to minimise at wekeend
Cut out fatty foods and try and eat healthier
Exercise most days, at least 4 times
Typres of training i did was :
Jogging, got up to about an hour on my wekeend run, other nights about 4-6 miles. I also entered into local 10k runs..good to aim for those runs etc
1 day 45 mins on cross trainer
next day 45 mins in gym weight training
Worked a treat for me, and fealt healthier than ever
Oh yeah and if u do run a lot, stretch stretch and stretch..thats how i got injured!

As stated, the exercises you are currently doing are only good for the particular muscle group that the exercise targets.
If you want to lose the belly, the key is to burn off more calories than you consume, which will trim the fat off.
The only way to do this is a sensible, calorie controlled diet and plenty of cardio exercise.
Unless you want strong arms etc, I'd give the push-ups and bag work a miss.
Sit ups are okay, as long as you are doing enough cardio to burn the fat off.
Once the fat burns off the benefit of your sit-ups will be apparent.
Get yourself a mountain bike and go out for 3 or 4 "spirited" runs a week, each one for at least 30 minutes, and you'll see a noticeable difference.
The big killer is the beer. Think about all the carbohydrates and sugar you are consuming in the evenings, of which virtually none is being burnt off, thats where your "tyre" is appearing from!
