Anyone with Asthma?
Just wondered what triggered off your asthma, or if you were born with it? I haven't got the wheezing associated with it but i have pretty much every other symptom.......
Thanks.
Thanks.

Stress can trigger an asthma attack but it's never happened to me. Pollen, dust, sneezing and furry creatures are the usual culprits for me. I could run round a rugby pitch for 90 minutes and not be bothered by it but if I stood a mile downwind from a smelly horse I'd have to get the inhaler out.
Also laughing hysterically can trigger an attack, so watching things like Bo Selecta and Billy Connolly on television can occasionally be dangerous.

Mine is mainly allergy related - dogs predominantly although most furry animals to an extent although very cold air and/or strenuous exercise do it sometimes, as do certain chemicals particularly sulphur dioxide (as I found out after a greenhouse fumigation went awry! )

Mine's triggered by Animal Hair and Pollen - have heard that stress can trigger an attack.
I first got Asthma when I was 11 - had inhalers ever since.
I've got 2 inhalers now - 1 to stop getting attacks (Beclazone) and another to stop attacks if they start (Salbutamol). Apparently the spasms that the attacks are, scar your lungs!.
Don't always have the wheezing - in fact I probably don't wheeze in the majority of cases when I need an inhaler - it just feels like a hippo's sitting on your chest or that your throat has shrunk to about a 10th of the size it should be. Quite frightening if you forget your inhaler.

I have just sorted it out with the drs, they are bloody useless, W69 is 6 months pregnant and shortness of breathe/lack of it is dangerous for her and the baby as the gp has told her already, yet they have done nothing for her.
Just sent her up there having spoken to the the surgery and explained my wish for her to be seen now and not when they think they can fit her in
She was well out of breathe ont he phone so its obvious to anyone she needs to be seen yet they couldn't give a flying ****. Oh how I love the NHS

I've tried the Seretide Inhalers - although labeled Serevent - they triggered an attack on me!
Wouldn't W69 get a better response from her midwife?

Have been asthmatic (never been able to speel either ) since about 10. Pretty mild though, so I'm lucky.
Triggers? Let's see, well, used to be smoke, pollen, cats, dogs, wabbits, dust, over exercise, and stress. Now I'm older, seems to be excessive pollen, dust, over exercise (not ALL over exercise though ) and stress.
I do carry my inhaler with me all the time (Bricanyl/Terbutaline Sulphate) but only use it when I need to, ok, so I should take 2 puffs 3 times a day, but haven't done that for many many years now.
Sooz - given your condition, bell the quack asap, or get down, ok, ok, UP, to K&S right now.
Hope all is ok

No her midwife wont do anything about a possible asthma attack. I hope an inhaler sorts out the breathing difficulties as its at least treatable then. If its not asthma don't know what to do as the drs have done nothing about it so far and its been getting progressively worse and now worrying after just speaking to her
I had asthma attacks at uni after smoking some dodgy stuff and they scared the crap out of me as I had no inhaler at the time as i'd never had astma before. Not a nice experience and one that I had not appreciated before having mine. Luckily they only lasted a few weeks and only get weazy now if I laugh too much or excersise due to being very unfit
I do not envy anyone who has to live with astma as an every day concern.

Fecking quacks, grrrrrrrrrrrr. OK, if she was not preggers then, maybe, just maybe, the lack of action by the medial profession would be slightly understandable, but it's two lives not one we are talking about here.
Am wondering if just dialing 999 might be an idea, it is technically an Emmergency, they can't exactly turn her away, can they?

Bravo/Weapon, stop fecking about with the GP's and get down to A & E.
Much better response there - and if she's that out of breath it is an emergency.
GP's suck.

GP's just fob you off all the time IMHO.
Going back tomorrow to be rediculed about the broken bone in my hand again
W69 - do you know someone with an inhaler (Salbutamol, the blue one) just have a blast on it and see if your breathing improves.

Just got back from hospital, doctors called an ambulance and went to a&e and I rushed home from work. Got to take Sooz back for more tests tomorrow as she didn't want to stay in overnight. Looks like possible blood clot in the leg which is breaking up and hitting her lungs each time a pice breaks off Hope to find out more tomorrow. Thanks for the replies about the asthma but know its definately not that now.

I`ve had it since I was about 3 although it went away from about 9 or 10 until my late teens for some reason but don`t get it as bad as I used to apart from when I cut the grass when the pollen count is high. Other things that affect me are mailny dust and exercise sometimes and the weather especially like now when its hot and stuffy.

I am infatuated with medical ailments... makes me go out and find all the information possible.
There is a Russian who proclaims to be able to cure asthmatics with a mere paper bag! Yes, it is true!! He says it is merely a case of over breathing and states that when an asthma attack is upon you, you should breath slowly and shallow... this enables your alveoli to disperse the oxygen rather that rebuff it and become drowned. The reason you cannot breath is because your lungs are already full and need to be emptied before being able to take the next breath. Panic then sets in which in turn starts the ever decreasing circle of breathlessness.
He cures all patients who trek to Russia - within 2 weeks all patients are off drugs and leading normal lives...
Of course.. I am not expert,,,, but here is a little excerpt: http://easyweb.easynet.co.uk/~buteyko/Buteyko21.htm
