Default Wasp Nest

I have a wasp nest in the garden in a hole in the ground and need to get rid - but anybody know the best way ? Somebody said petrol down the hole will kill them with the fumes....is there a better way ?

The sensible (and boring thing) to do would be to dump a load of ant powder down the hole, it will kill the lot.

The fun way: http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthrea...ighlight=wasps

Looks like I will be using the petrol approach this weekend then. I will definitely have a burn - much more fun than powder !!!

Some tips from experiance...

1) Make sure you locate ALL the hols leading to the nest first.
2) Fill in all hols but one (I used stones and soil and packed it down)
3) Pour enough petrol down to reach th nest (In hindsight I proably should have used more in my conflict)
4) Fill the hole *completely* afterwards (pack it down hard)
5) Do all this at dusk when the wasps are not about

Good luck and post your mission

Hello

I have to do this with one problem: The wasps nest is in long grass! Do you think I mow it first at dusk to locate the holes?

Steve.

I would be careful doing this. The vibrations will whip them up into a frenzy!!!

Just ring the council - we had a huge nest in the rafters last week, phoned the council, 1 day and £18.50 later all the wasps are gone.

They use a pesticide called Carbonium or something which kills them all off within an hour.

DW,

we would have done this but they could not make it for a week and a half. Couldn't wait that long...

Do you have a strimmer? I would use a strimmer for this job. The stinging buzzers are bound to come out and investigate the noise pollution, and at least if you're armed with a strimmer you can lift it into the air to protect yourself from airborne enemies, or flail it wildly above your head if there's a big cloud of stinging buzzers in the air. (Sensible precautions apply - be alone in the garden and mind your limbs with that strimmer.) Also, don't wear a t-shirt and shorts.

If I were you I would try and locate all of the holes.

LOL @ "stinging buzzers"

Seriously though, any machinery like a strimmer that oscillates around the same frequency as the wasps own buzz is likely to envoke an immediate attack response!!! Even wasps returning to the nest will pick up the pheromone and join in and you will be turned into a histamine ridden stinging buzzer pin cushion!!!
