download the poker game from www.williamhill.co.uk sign up and you can play for free (i.e. your not gambling your money, its make believe) make sure you join the correct table though
get some practise that way, but on play for free, people are far more willing to make stupid bets. Learn the basics, what hands beat what hands etc, then eventually when you feel like you have enough knowledge to play for real you can sign up for $5 tournaments, winner takes $25, not bad for 2 quid. Thats good practise. Dont forget, poker is mostly about percentages. Good luck.

It is the Grosvenor casino in Luton that has Texas Hold 'Em. Also the Grosvenor casino in Southampton has Texas Hold Em nights.
On line 'free' poker is a waste of time, people get bored folding hands, then cos it is 'free' money they play poor hands just to be involved.
They then may get a lucky flop, turn and river and they beat you. It is not realistic and patterns of play are completely different to real money games.
Worth playing to get the hang of it, but in terms of strategy and watching how other players play and bet, it can be misleading.
Good Luck

Plenty of information here: http://www.thepokerforum.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi
The first thing you need to learn is what beats what and then how to select hands to start with. Most winning players are tight/agressive. In other words they spend most of their time folding but when they play they play hard and fast.

i play at uk-poker.co.uk. best site i think. tournaments every 10mins or so. over 2500 peeps online at times.
i agree with the rest, fake money games are a waste of time.
the best way to learn and have fun is enter the cheap tournaments on uk poker. $1, $2, $5 etc. just see the $5 as tuition money!
patience is the key.

I play most nights on Ladbrokes and have been making modest profits, but be WARNED you are about to be a very small fish in a sea of sharks who will enjoy taking your money.
There are few books... I would start with this one

I play Texas Hold 'em with the inlaws some times. I found Texas Hold 'em quite an easy game to understand and not to hard to remember. Once you can remember what beats what your sorted. The only thinkg left is to work on your game face
We are talking about have a casino day out soon at work so I might work the tables and then lose my pay check

Been loitering around Ladbrokes & Paradise. I've read that Paradise isn't the best place to start off at. Might stick to Ladbrokes for a while until I get a good few hours in.
Any other sites recommended?
Perhaps we should have a private scoobynet tournament on one of the sites!
