Arrow European Breakdown Cover

Seeing as I'm off to Germany next month for the Rally and my AA cover with Subaru has now expired, I was thinking about taking out some breakdown cover for the journey.

Any good / bad experiences to report? Who do you use and what sort of price are you paying?

The basic choice I can see would be to go for one-off cover for the trip (6 days) which seems to be roughly £45 on the AA or RAC sites, or look at an all in package for the year that covers Europe as well. The best price I've seen is this one - £87 for a year - UK / Europe cover for accident and breakdown assistance with recovery back home or onto destination. This, to me, looks like better value.

Comments / suggestions?

What insurance co you with? When i was with Privelige, took out Euro cover and it was with Mondial. Good job really as the STI blew up 100miles from Calais, they took the car to calais, at dover had a recovery truck waiting and a cab to take us to a hotel, early next morning a hire car was delivered which I drove home in. Meanwhile my car had been delivered to a subaru dealer specified by me and the next day they collected the hire car. I had to pay for the hotel, sent the claim form to Mondial and within a week had a cheque for the full amount.

Would defo recommend them if you can get a policy with them

Craig - mine's with Greenlight. I'm not aware that they offer this kind of cover, so that's why I thought this might be best.

Who's the actual insurer though? Do you still need Green cards? Not driven in europe for a while - my cover was included with that from privelige - sorry forgot to say.

Sorry for the delay in replying

Can't remember the insurer - I will have to look it up. You still need a green card - most insurance policies double as a grren card these days - I know Greenlight's do - but it is worth checking, rather than just assuming.

I'm still looking for any other suggestions for breakdown cover if anyone has them.

Europ Assist

Certainly for UK breakdown/recovery insurance they work out much cheaper than AA/RAC/Green Flag etc. I used to use that policy as a member of the Guild of Experienced Motorists GEM, a bit of an old farts organisation but cheaper breakdown cover. If you become a member of GEM you get a discount off the Europ Assist insurance.

I tend to use directline . Not had a reason to call them out as yet though.

How about these people

http://www.quotelinedirect.com

£59 quid gives you a years euro and UK breakdown recovery. Cheaper than anyone else I found and a good prompt service when I had cause to use them.
