any walk through gate is the best IMO saves all the faffing about getting your leg over so to speak
If its just for occasional use they do a safety first one which is fabric but not walk through ideal for travelling

We've got one of these at the top and one at the bottom of the stairs.
Cheapo gate at Mothercare and they do the job at £25 a pop.
That's assuming you don't mind drilling your walls. If you want one that clamps into place, then you'll need to pay more. You'll also have the bar across the bottom of the gate which will try and kill you by throwing you down the stairs

Hello
I use this one: http://www.mothercare.com/invt/lq713...safgatesguards
As you don't have to screw anything in to the wall. And we have a rather large gap at the bottom of the stairs.
Steve.
