I have had the displeasure of watching mtv/mtv2/other sky music channels for a couple of hours this morning and something very odd has struck me about the censorship used by the channel - for example the following lyrics from songs are not blocked in any way :

"I've got something to put in you,
At the gay bar, gay bar, gay bar."
Electric Six - Gay Bar

"Her *** is a spaceship I want to ride"
NERD - She wants to move

Now while I am not offended in any way shape or form by these lyrics but I would imagine that they could be taken the wrong way or seen as offensive so it strikes me as strange that the following items are blocked/censored:


"Lets start a nuclear war'
Electric Six - Gay Bar

Certain parts of a scene involving avril lavigne punching a mirror in her new song is "blocked"

And parts of a scene involving someone smoking in an episodes of the osbournes.

Is it just me or is this all a bit odd?

Also anything involving Ja Rule, Ashanti or any of the other Murder, Inc. acts often has a banner or sign which says "Murder, Inc." This is always blacked out by MTV.

"Murder, Inc." was actually a Humphrey Bogart film...

They also block out most if not all images of guns from music videos or mtv shows- fake or real.

That's stupid. Any warning before Eastenders should say:

This programme was made for the large percentage of the UK population who are basically braindead to give them something to do before the pub gets busy or the football starts. Watching this can cause your brain to be sucked out of your head and flushed down the nearest toilet - you have been warned.

pink - don't let me get me - she stabs a knife into the wall - blurred out, same as avril punching glass - u can see exactly what she is doing? weird...yet they can say ****** etc. even on radio 1, after big ron's outburst, *pop* songs saying ****** in the afternoon. weird, damn weird!

Eastenders, ok, that I might deal with, however they put a similar card on nearly all programmes, and I'm talking about Lovejoy, Monarch of the Glen, in other words pre watershed programs! It's silly!

As for MTV - It's american and there's no way you can say "war" that's bad, war is bad, and naughty, and you should not talk about it. Bloody stupid yanks.

Censorship in the US is totally out of control, be it covering up someone giving the bird, foul langague, covering over advertising on clothes, it's stupid in the extreme.

Just be thankfull you don't have TBS, that is the most censored channel I've ever had the mistfortune to watch. It is a 'family' channel, so I guess that's the reason. The massive pish take they are about to start showing Sex and the City. Hmm, should be able to see the end of the run by sunday then, as it'll be cut to shreds. grrrrrr

I do get narked off with some of the channels saying a film is "uncut" when it's bollocks, either the language or some of the violence is cut, have been tempted to contact the channel and mention this to them, that it's false advertisting
