Default Snooker Cues and Playing American Pool?

I am soon to be investing in a snooker cue. But I also quite often play American Pool. However it appears to me that the white in American pool is slightly larger/heavier???

Will I damage a snooker cue by using it to play English or American pool?

Possibly. Even American pool players have two different cues - one for general play and one specifically for breaking the pack at the start of the game. I assume snooker cues and their tips are designed specifically for the weight of snooker ***** and not for the heavier pool *****.

I think I will invest in a snooker cue now then and maybe buy a cheapish pool cue later but until then use the sticky crap the clubs leave out.

ye you will defo damage a snooker cue playing american pool, the ferrell on a snooker cue is not designed to take the impact of the larger ball.

it will be alright to play english pool tho,as the ***** are smaller than snooker *****

i had the same dilema when came to buy mine i play more pool than snookerbut wanted a cue for both , i ended up buying a carbon fibre rileys snooker cue had no problems using it in over 2 years although i didnt break with it at 1st prefering to use the club cues

i prefer the finer tip of a snooker cue get alot finer cut and control the ball more compared to a thicker pool cue

If you purchase a cue with a 10mm dia tip it will be good for both snooker and american pool. Also it allows much better cue ball control than an american pool cue.

I have one at home which I use for snooker and american pool. I play alot of pool and find american pool cues clumsy in comparison. I will check the exact size of the tip and let you know. Weight is also important.

How much you looking to spend BTW? I've had sooo many £20-£40 cues which i was never happy with so invested £250 in a custom made english pool cue which was money well spent as I will last man, many years.

Carbon Fibre is very different to Ash and most players perfer ash. With cues you really have to have it in your hands and play a few shots with it to find out if you like it or not.

I am looking to spend about £100 on cue and case. It was bad enough when I had to pay for the replacement of the snooker halls cheapy £7 one. So not looking to spend too much.

If I do buy a pool cue aswell I will probably onsly spend about £40 on this though, don't take pool as seriously.

I have a decent snooker cue which I use to play both pool (english) and snooker. I would never use it for American Pool, the weight of the ***** are far heavier than snooker.

I don't play much any more, but when I did I used a 7mm tip for snooker and UK pool, 9mm tip for US pool but used a club cue to break with.
