Just been through this for an 18th. I think it needs to be an Event rather than a pressie. Such as trip to Paris, surprise party, quality dinner party, helicopter as you say, whatever. All depends on your budget and what you know "she" would like. I take it "she" is Mrs Mac or gf? DL

Mine was daughter too - hell you must be old like me
We did a surprise party at a pub/restaurant which was a genuine surprise with her gang attending and us oldies and a few friends. Did some special T-shirts (Hello magazine style) and laid on some good grub and music. She was delighted and she will remember it for many a year. DL (broke dad).

The gf celebrates her 21st on Wednesday, unfortunately i'm going to be in the middle of the North Sea then so we had the bash on Saturday just past.
She requested a days paintball ( !! ) which i duly obliged to, rounded up 12 close friends and had an absolute blast of a time doing. Did the whole meal and drinks thing later on in the evening with a slightly larger group.
Present wise i have a couple of DVD's she didn't get for Valentines, a pink Von Dutch hat i got off eBay (she loves the whole Vicky Beckham image... ) and a platinum and diamond cross. I'm told these are kind of fashionable at the moment but the reason i personally chose it is my Mother has had one similar for over 20 years which she adores so IMO it'll never really go out of fashion and being platinum it won't discolour.
I did consider the holiday idea but our work schedules only coincide to give us one week off together this year which is in September which we'll be going away for anyway.

for my 21st birthday, my family clubbed together and paid for me to do a days racing supercars around a race track. Fantastic day out, got to drive, dodge viper, lotus exige, jag xkr, maserati, porsche 911, then got taken out by the pro driver to scare the life out of me.
Cracking day, think this was through red letter days.

May be wrong here... but I always thought that presents for the 21st were supposed to be something that could be kept... ie. watch, jewelery etc
Agree that an event may make the day more memorable but I'd go for a nice engraved watch or something as well
