Holy smoke - that actually ripped off the entire back panel off the monocoque!

Thats not a good advert for chassis/spot weld strength on those cars!

Of course, nothing behind the rear axle is structural anyway

1) Why didn't they use the tow loop to tow the car rather than just attaching the rope to bumper fixings?

2) Why didn't they just clear the f**king snow?

I think they did use the tow loop, which is why the whole back of the car came off, not just the bumper.

I'm not so sure... you can't really see clearly.

You hear in the film someone asking if he'd "hooked it to the bumber" to which he replies "no, I didn't hook it to the bumber". It seems a bit of a stupid question to ask if they knew what they were doing and I would expect a response along the lines of "no, I hooked it to the tow loop".

Also, you can see the tow rope was attached to the same side as the exhaust. I would normally expect the tow loop to be on the opposite side of the car to the exhaust.

They're also only using a material type tow line, nothing amazingly strong like a steel cable. Wouldn't the tow line break before you pull the whole back end of a car off from the tow loop.

It looks to be more like they attached the rope to one of the strutts attaching the metal bumper mechanism to the chassis - the bit that pushes in to absorb an impact. The plastic bumper is then attached to the 'real' bumper mechanism to make the car look nice. If you look at the bit on the ground that he zooms in on, it was clearly attached with such a strutt. It looks like that where the rope was. Theres no evidence of any of the chassis being torn off and thats where the tow loop would have been secured.

IMHO of course
