Lost in Translation
As everyone is starting films threads...
Anyone else seen Lost in Translation with Bill Murray and some blonde bint.
I think my gf and I missed the whole point of the film (a literal title?) because we both thought it was utter ****e. Really slow to get going, not that it ever got going. Nothing even vaguely interesting happened. Also, how anyone can be bored in Tokyo is beyond me.
I would also like to know how, at the end of the film, said blonde managed to leave Bill in the hotel reception and gets in the lift, whilst he gets in his limo and gets driven off, then she appears - as if by magic - miles down the road for a final meeting/goodbye.
Another film to add to my utter crud list which includes:-
Lost in Translation (cure for insomnia)
Crouching Tiger Hidden Wires (****eness discussed elsewhere)
Moulin Rouge (achingly bad)
ET
Event Horizon
Lord of the Ringpieces (1st third of a fecking long film with no ending)
Most Jean Claude Van Damnbad films
All boxing films (esp. Rocky I through to MMMMXXXCVI)
Anything with Dustbin Hoffw4nk in

Oh yeah , I agree about lost in Translation .

Sat through LiT in the cinema with my girlfriend. Up the come credits at the end and we both looked at each other with the same "WTF?" expression. Very dissappointed by it - maybe we just didn't appreciate the art?

Totally agree about Lord of the Ringpiece though. Ditto for part 2: Twin Showers of s**t also. Now that was utter cack.

Greatly enjoyed it. Remake of Brief Encounter. The point was it was not your average boy meets girl, falls in love and drive off into the sunset together Hollywood crap. Sorry it didn't have enough car chases and guns for you
BTW my son saw it last night, and enjoyed it, and he ain't Mr Arthouse...

Agree with Brendan,
the film is trying to say stuff about the choices we make in life, the aimless directions we take and the transitory nature of some relationships.
the hotel can be seen as a sort of artificial refuge that some people find themseleves in, unable to join in with the rest of soceity due to their inablity to enjoy life and live in the moment.
its also kind of says that despite common sense and the fact that we so very rarely meet special people in our journey through life, we still make bad decisions when choosing our life partners and despite feeling trapped in wayward relationships, many of us are reluctant to 'jump ship'.
of course it does all this in a very slow and admittedly sometimes 'boring' way but then not all films like to treat their audience like a retard.
some of the best films leave you with more questions than answers.
having said that i still think it was a bit crap and apart from Bill Murray being his usuall excellent self, we could have done with more shots of the blonde bird's ****!!

The best bit was watching the making of it (on the dvd) and some clips of Bill Murray messing about - far more entertaining than the film !!!
I gotta agree about Event Horizon being utter crap though - hated it.

Unsure whether it deserved oscar though, but not seen what else it was up against.

I know Murray was up for one but he got beaten by Sean Penn and about time too. He is superb. Been a big fan since 'at close range'
