Angry I was pick-pocketed for 2 phones and wallet in Paris, need crime ref. no

Can anyone suggest the best method for me to obtain a crime reference number from Paris, France.

I was pickpocketed in McDonalds Restaurant outside Gard du Nord... The thieving *!*!**! got away with both of my mobile phones *Panasonic GD87 and my SonyEricsson P800). They also got my wallet with many credit cards.

To cut a long story short, my P800 was insured... however in order for the claim to be processed, the insurance company need a crime reference number... from France because that is where the incident happended?!?

I didn't have time to report the incident because I would have missed my train... let alone find a police station and a helpful citizen to give me directions to the police station.

Any ideas???

I remember waiting for a snow-train at Marsais (?sp) and feeling very insecure as I had a 3 hour wait at 2am

Contacting the British embassy might be your best bet, theyre normally pretty helpful and should be able to advise you on what to do.

Doesnt surprise me to hear that though, Paris has turned into a complete dive.

Turned into a complete dive! I presume you're talking about a time before 1982 that it wasn't a dive. That was the year I went to Paris for the first time and it was a complete dive then. Two subsequent visits confirmed that it was a dive full of unpleasant people.

Rather ironic that Paris is considered romantic. About as romantic as syphillis.

Default Crime reference number

Do you think the local police station will log the report and give a crime reference number even if the theft occured in Paris?
