M6 Toll Road - good/bad experiences
Has anyone had any good/bad experiences of the new M6 toll road?
I may be using it in the next couple of weeks (from M42 going north).
Just wondering if it is worth using it, or continue to suffer the M6 across Brum route.

I used it a couple of weekends ago to go too/from Manchester.
It was very quiet traffic wise.
I tried to stick to a reasonable speed in one direction, but nobody else did, so I went slightly faster on the way back .
Well worth the couple of quid, just so you don't have to smell Birmingham!

I haven't used the Toll Road, but I have found that the regular M6 is now a lot quieter.
Coming northwards on the M5 to join the M6 at J8 used to be a nightmare with a queue pretty much back to J1 on the M5. I haven't seen a queue there since the new road opened. Similarly, heading south the queue always started at Hilton Park Services. I haven't been held up there since the new road opened.

I used it at 10am on a Friday and I don't think there were any more that five cars in sight at any one time. Watch out for plod though - it's easy to speed and they sit on the bridges with lasers.
It's well worth £2 to avoid Birmingham.

Used it going North, wanted to exit T5 but missed it as it was not numbered just sign posted Litchfield, watch out if you want the exit as it is well confusing with the previous exits being numbered.
Empty road and good value.

As above,
I used it a couple of days after it opened on the way down from the Lakes. Empty roads except for a couple of Rep types and no trucks, and that was at 2.30 in the afternoon. There was a fully marked up Merc ML Class paying attention to cars on the road, but they were the ones going North
Will use it again, defo.

Last month the services weren't open (petrol stations were though) so if you need the toilet you have to queue for 20 mins to use the single trap at the BP
Have to say I've always used it as soon as it opened so I don't know how much the congestion has gone down around brum, not much I'd wager since the toll is empty when I've used it.

However, that's the worst I've seen the southbound side for some time. The northwards return was easy though with J4 to J17 taking less than an hour starting at 5.20 pm.
