Cool WTF is Burberry

Following on from the WTF is a CHAV thread I decided to ask this question as it seems to be one of the latest words bandied around like CHAV and BLING etc.

For those of us that are not upto date on this new form of English can someone explain what Burberry is?

Thanks

Although, some of it is very classy. Can't believe I just said that!

My old boss had a burberry jacket which was lovely looking, didn't have burberry check anywhere in sight!

I wonder if the Burberry thing was started by Vauxhall using it to cover their "sports" (recaro-ish) seats.

I remember my dad's Astra LXi (1.8 GTE engine) estate having them. It didn't seem to have an influence on me- thankfully!

Burberry was upmarket, then it went mass market, then the chavs adopted it as their symbol, then it went down the toilet

Bit like Pringle, and Sergio Tacchini, and Kappa, in the 70's and 80's.

Personally, I cannot undersatnd for the life of me the **** retentive way this country has of worshipping uniforms, and all trying to look alike:

Agree - I normally don't wear what everyone else does, with the possible exception of my Barbours. When the Chavs start wearing Barbours I shall burn them (that's the Barbours, not the chavs.....hang on lads, i've just had a great idea .........).

Lol at Dave-TS. Your (jacket's) days could be numbered. When I was at school there was a time when the chavs of the day took favour to your favoured wax jacket. That was early 80's, so about time for it to come around again

Difference was that in those days most people bought the "erzat's" (?spelling) versions rather than the real thing!

Can't see chavs in them myself... they're (Barbours) far too practical - warm and waterproof - besides which, chavs are so hard they don't need to wear coats anyway

Went to a real Chav's flat last night. He has about a dozen hooks on his hall wall & on each was a baseball cap. Pride of place went to the Burberry closely followed by the Joe Bloggs one.

TV network CBS has apologised for its broadcast of the American Super Bowl after Janet Jackson appeared carrying a Burberry handbag, clutching a bottle of Strongbow and smoking a Lambert & Butler cigarette.

The pair had been performing a raunchy half-time duet when Jackson produced the handbag.

Timberlake said in a statement: "I dunno why everyone's gettin' so, like, narky abaaht it."

CBS quickly cut away from the scene but was still flooded with calls from angry viewers about the half-time entertainment, produced by MTV.

The Super Bowl is consistently America's highest watched television event. This year the New England Patriots beat the Carolina Panthers.

During the half-time show, Timberlake reached out and grabbed at Jackson's bottle, forcing her to ****** it back before the stage lights were quickly dimmed.

CBS said officials had watched rehearsals and had no indication of the nature of the performance during the half-time show.

And NFL officials were also angry at what had happened during the broadcast, watched by millions of families.

Joe Browne, NFL executive vice president, said certain elements of the show were "a blatant and shameless display of the worst kind of chavvery, totally inconsistent with the nature of the event."

He added it was unlikely MTV would be producing another Super Bowl entertainment show.

MTV also issued an apology, calling the incident "unrehearsed, unplanned" and "completely chav-like".

Timberlake, known for his raunchy performances with female stars, including celebrity pikey Christina Aguilera, insisted it had been an acceptable performance.

"You lot ought to get a fackin' life," the singer said, while looking uninterested and randomly prodding the buttons on his mobile phone.
