Cyclists and Lycra - what the hell do...
...they think they look like!?!?!?
Every morning I have the misfortune of seeing a prat wearing a gaudy lycra suit waving his **** in the air as he weaves in and out of the queuing traffic. Its a traffic jam queuing for the motorway, not the Tour de France! This choice of attire is surely unnecessary and at best unsightly.
Can anyone tell me what possible reason could there be for a grown man to wear flourescent pink tights on his way into work in the morning???

I used to wear Lycra running trousers when I used to go running at night. The main reason was because of the reflective strip down the side and the fact that they are ultra light.
Maybe he is concerned about being knocked off his bike, maybe he likes the fit maybe he thinks he looks good in lycra, maybe he is trying to make himself aware to you

Have you ever ridden a bike for any distance or at any speed? Or do you drive everywhere? My guess is the latter so you'll never know why cyclists wear lycra instead of jeans or a tracksuit. Just reel your neck in and let them get on with it FFS, it hardly slows you down does it ?
BTW, there's no excuse for flourescent pink..

You can buy saddles with brass studs in PC, so I daresay you'd find someone willing to try them!
As for the reasons why cyclists wear lycra, it's durable, lightweight, doesn't billow in the wind, and doesn't absorb moisture. As for why it's pink, that's probably to make sure you notice and don't drive into the guy...

I wear the full lycra kit on my bike, and many times I have been laughed at. But try cycling 50-100 miles in anything else, and you'll know why lycra is the only choice.
Last year I was buying some stuff in a petrol station and I was in the full kit. There was a car parked up full of horrible fat women and they were laughing and pointing at me. I had to chuckle smugly to myself at what I might say to them:
"Ladies, when I return home I will change out of these funny clothes. When you get home, you will still be fat and ugly."

The visibility excuse hold no water, there are countless hi-vis alternatives that don't make the wearer look like a tw@t!!! I'm not just talking about pink either.... some look more like the scrambled mass of vivid colours, like the new BA tailplane logos! Horrific and totally unecessary!
Where you going with this? I have utmost respect, as you well know, for our fellow bi-wheeled, libdem powered boneshakers..... I mean, can you imagine the damage a scratchy old bike could do to the paintwork should you hit one!

12LEE, I was thinking the same but IIRC the original was:
"Sir, you are drunk!"
"Madam, I am drunk and you are ugly, but in the morning, I will be sober."
Ah, how electable!

LOL
When i cycle to work i wear my lycra shorts (NOT PINK) they are a must IMO if you do alot of distance cycling
Get on a bike and cycle 50 miles and then you will know why lycra is better than sports shorts
