Carriers- Any recommendations?
We've had an account with Amtrak for years now, and spend £400 a month or so with them.
The franchise holder has p*ssed me off in a big way this morning, so am looking to change.
We require next day delivery, and have been paying £12.50 for up to 10 kilos.
Any recommendations?

We used to use Securicor Omega, and had nothing but problems. We now use City Link, very pleased. We don't spend anything like you do but their rates seem pretty good.

Run a mail-order giftware company and must have used every carrier in the UK by now, and none much better than the other.
If it’s service you are after, the likes of TNT and UPS are your best bet, but it shows in the prices.
Using Interlink Express at the moment; service in terms of delivery is very good (and quite cheap) but accounts can be a nightmare on credits, invoicing, etc.

Fatman;
We have spoken to them a few times as they have been recommended by others. However, IIRC they could not get anywhere near on price; as most of our stuff is two or three kilos max.

We use Target at present, service and prices are questionable to say the least.
Have been looking at Business Post as an alternative. Rates are significantly better, anyone had experience of the service?

City link may be OK as far as the sender is concerned but they are disorganised bunch of muppets as far as the recipient is concerned!
Securicor has now been taken over by DHL.
Personally we used to have a number of carriers on the books depending on where we needed to get stuff. It may be extra work but you can save a lot of money doing it that way.

I run a mail order company selling bit's for Jap imported Eunos Roadsters and like VaTaNeN have used most of the couriers in the last 3 or 4 years.
TNT were very expensive for us, Nightspeed are a joke, ANP were ok as a network but have local franchise problems and we are now using City Link. They aren't great either but prices are cheaper than most plus they do a 'double your money back' deal which we regulary claim on if a parcel doesn't get delivered on time....
Business Post/Geo Post are best for overseas deliveries.

I think part of the problem is that most regional depots are franchised, thus you either get a good local depot or a bad one, irrespective of the carrier. When stuff goes missing, etc, I end up ringing the depot that was supposed to deliver at the customer end – the difference in feedback is unbelievable; some depots are really helpful and will pull out all the stops to sort the problem, whilst others really could not give a toss - yet all are part of the same company.
Fig - Business Post; been there got the T-shirt! Low rates and a service to match They are ok on International as RussBoy suggests, though I think that is because UPS handle their off shore stuff, could be wrong?

We're on Business Post at the moment.
Lynx used to play football with our kit - I'd end up getting dragged out on site after shipping stuff to find bits of computers rattling around the case.
All as bad as each other I reckon...

We have just changed to Amtrak, their Bristol depot is a joke!! But there's always someone who's had an experience with every carrier, so it's not going to be easy to get a good recommendation if you know what I mean.
Nightfreight were OK, City Link were OK

Bane of my life; have had to jump on planes before now to take a tape to make its tranmsission slot. ALL couriers are essentially muppets.
DHL promised to pickup a tape just on Tuesday & just didnt turn up, depsite an assurance that they were coming when we called at 19:00; then the office was closed when we called at 20:30 to see where they bloody hell they were. I then have to grovel; to the client AGAIN the next day cos this happened last week with a DIFFERENT courier. Arghhhhhhhh!!!!
TNT have been the best of a bad bunch!
