Holidays and starting work with a new company
Hi,
Can someone please advise me on this.
I'm currently looking for work but might find a job soon. I have a holiday booked for three weeks in May that i paid for a while ago when i was still working for another compnay.
My concern is that i start work and my new company then turns around and says that i can't take that Holiday. If i tell them that i have this holiday booked before starting work with them are they likely to be understanding or not?
Thanks,
Mark

tell them you have the holiday booked AFTER they offer you the job but BEFORE you accept it (and get them to agree it).
that way it can't possibly affect your application but will stop possible problems in the long-run. if they're going to be arsey about it, do u really want to work there anyway?

I'm about to start a new job and had this exact predicament. You should tell the prospective employer at the 2nd interview (or 1st if you think they want you) and by rights they have to honour it if they employ you. If you don't tell them and accept a job offer they can then refuse. Let's be honest, if you're the right person for the job they're not gonna give it to someone else because you've got a pre booked holiday. The only thing is that if you take it after you start your new job it's likely to be unpaid (unless it's after you've finished any probationary period).
I finish with my current employer on the 5th March, go skiing for a week (which is paid holiday cos my current employer owes it to me), then start my new job on the 15th. It all worked out rather nicely in the end

Hi Howee,
Congrats on the new job. That's really cleared things up and put my mind at rest. I thought that by rights they had to honour it.
Cheers,
Mark
