I've just had one of the biggest carp in my pond eaten by a fox.I'm not sure if the fish jumped out and got scoffed or the fox heled itself either way the fox is gonna have a lead dinner soon !!!

Carp do jump in mating season but thats it AFAIK

but the mating season dont start till around march time...

all of the above are possible and carp do jump all year but not often in cold water but beware that this could be an otter,it has happened many times around here now that they are protected and released into enviroments that cannot sustain them all,sounds unbelievable but it is true.

If it was an otter i would pretty impressed as i live in the middle of a town,not sure about the Heron either unless it had been on steroids this fish was about 10lb in weight and 2 feet long and would have to have been pulled ont of water 41/2 feet deep all over that would be some heron!I'm going for the fox and i don't care if it was hungry i am going to have revenge!!

Im a fish keeper and these things can be suicidal, bit like the pilot whales beaching themselves for no reason, probably got stressed and jumped out, would net over your pond a.s.a.p if i was you, also could be a consequence of your pond maybe being to small, not necessarily width but depth, fish of this size need at least 4 feet deep, this causes trauma sometimes and they decide to commit themselves to life outside the pond
