Why the hell does the BBC have to take the entire fall for the Hutton report while the Government looks over with an arrogant triumphant "we won" attitude?
The sooner we are rid of this lying bunch of morons of a government the better

Look into my eyes. Look into my eyes. The eyes. The eyes. Not around the eyes. Don't look around my eyes. Look into my eyes... You're under.

Number 10 did not sex up the report. Alastair Campbell only wanted to check the spelling and make sure the commas were in the right place. It was all the MoD's fault, but we're not going to say anything against Geoff Hoon, even though he's the Cabinet member in charge of the MoD. It's alright for Intelligence to rely on a single uncorroborated source in documents which make a case for committing a country to war, but not for a BBC reporter to rely on a single uncorroborated source in a news report.

Three, two, one, you're back in the room.

Does anybody in this country actually agree with the report?
Is a knighthood better than a lord or not?
I can't remember

Kelly worked for the MOD/Government right? So presumably he signed the official secrets act?

Forgive me if i'm not reading far enough into this but if he started giving interviews to the press (a MAJOR no-no), and was then outed by the media/government, he probably committed suicide as he knew what serious $hit he was in. If he hadn't killed himself then the government probably would have locked him in the tower.

What's to investigate?

Would we ever know how much Hutton was 'leant-on', if he were? Perhaps it's just me being cynical and conspiracy-theoryist (spl?), but IMHO Tony B.liar had to come out of this whiter than white, and that would have been ensured. I see it as another "we'll never really know the truth" situations.

Personal opinion: Lord Hutton does not like journalists - this is pretty well documented. In previous inquiries, he always sides with politicians.

Seems the obvious choice to get him involved in an enquiry between politicians and journalists then. (erm, if you're a politician)

You mean Hutton may have been chosen because he was a 'sound' man who could be counted on to deliver the 'right' result? Surely not!

There was another good point made on a different thread. What you have to look at is the actual remit of the enquiry.

Hutton had a very narrow area to consider, and none of it really concerned what the government actually did and all of it looked at what the BBC may have done wrong.

Try this. Ask yourself this question: "Are we better off under this government we would be if Robert Mugabe were in power here?"

Congratulations. The government are happy to be able to announce that 95% of Scoobynetters think that they are better off under New Labour.

That's how it works, folks. As a journalist I am increasingly bemused that politicians accuse us of being shifty...

I'll bet that Lorraine Heggessy gets the DG's job and Baroness Jay gets Chairman of the Governors.

Heggessy will gut the rest of the corporation by carrying on her dumbing down policies unchecked.

And Baroness Jay, although I have great respect for her, is the daughter of a former Labour PM.

Portaloo would probably be very good but unless he does a deal with The Devil (not unheard of in politics, of course) he'd be considered far too dangerous for Bliar to let him loose...
