It blows goats going to the pub when you're trying to give up

Gave up week before christmas and read Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking (book says dont give up first) not been tempted to smoke (had a few empty moments) and feel fantastic for the first time in years.

I now realise what a filthy discusting addiction smoking is and I KNOW I will never smoke again.

Anyone having doubts about giving up of thinking of giving up read this book and you will ENJOY stopping.

Good luck

Red face

Slight hijack, but one for the ladies reading (or their menfolk)...

I've known two girls who get pregnant and stop smoking for the sake of the unborn. They then have the child and happily start again.

So they gave up for, say 7-8 mths, not a puff, then straight back on again afterwards.

WHY?

Smokers think non smokers are missing out on something, they can't understand why people DONT smoke. when women have children they see it as they went without for months and start smoking again.

They never looked at it as they had stopped smoking.

Here is one for you, why do we say "giving up smoking"

What are we "giving up"?

answer is we are only giving up killing ourselves.

real punishment that is eh???

Good luck JSW

I know Allen Carr's method is 100% correct and I too enjoyed stopping but ... I've read the book 3 times and on each occasion started off with the certainty that I'll never smoke again, that you have at the moment, lasted 3 months and then started again.....

Just beware, and keep the book very handy for reference......

Not wanting to dampen your spirits but beating the nicotine trap is the easy bit but the brainwashing bit remains for a LONG time after you thing it's gone

Good luck though and hope you have more success than I've had.....

That book is always close to me at the moment as I do get some empty moments. I find these moments go very quickly whenI read a couple of pages. I agree it is going to take time but I am hopeful as I have seen so many benefits in only a short period of time.

Whats odd is in a pub when I am drunk is the easiest time, I am not tempted at all. I find being at home on my own is far more difficult as smoking used to fill the gaps.

Good luck, read the book again and i am sure over time you will be fine.

I have given up since New Years Day after seeing those adverts. Been smoking for 9 years and thought I`d give it a go, so far so good.

A whole 27 months I've been quit now. Is STILL hard going when I get stressed at work, and after a few bevvies in the pub, it can get very tempting. I must admit, I had a cigar Christmas eve this year, and also had one last Christmas eve, but thats it. A freind of mine quit, and I quit the week after him. Every time I told him, in the pub, that I NEEDED a cancer stick, he would say "YOU ARE WEAK". That somehow sorted my head, and that was it.

After 3 days you are no longer addicted to nicotine, it is just in your head.
I went to an Alan Carr's meeting in Wimbledon (others nationwide) and have never wanted a *** since (21 months 3weeks 4 days 16 hours 37 minutes approx ago!)
Seriously, it worked for me

good luck

I "stopped" last year for a short time - I noticed that after a bout 2 weeks I felt noticbly better, hard to describe, just more energy, easier to get up in the morning etc, my libido even improved

Unfortunately i slipped back into it via the minature cigars, first just one a day then....

Now back on the **** but this time smoking a small pack of rolling baccy every 2 days as opposed to 20-25 embassy's a day.

I actually had a " I want to stop smoking " moment this morning, I might look at amazon and order that book mentioned, there is no doubt smoking is a foul habit, as pleasant as it can be to a regular smoker.

Smile

Decided last monday 5th Jan to quit smoking following a cold and quite bad chest infection. Have tried before with will-power only and failed miserably, so went to the Doctors and got prescribed "Nicotinell patches" I'm on the 14mg (Medium) ones as I used to smoke less than 20 a day.

6th Day now and its going well, of course I still get the cravings but the patches really seem to help. Even went to the pub on Friday night and wasn't tempted to light one up..

Agree with **************, I'm gonna need to join the Gym too can see myself putting on some weight the next few months if I keep it up..
