My mate ordered some DVD's from the US totaling $50 USD, guess what, customs only charged her an additional £30!
I hate this bl00dy country. One big flipping rip off!
P.s. If your from outside the UK, don't come here! Not unless your a millionaire who wants to becomes a poor person! :@

Bad isnt it.
Example. Value of item USD $3000
Import VAT GBP £300.50
Duties GBP £1.36
Brokerage Surcharges GBP £10.00
OK I get stung for the normal import VAT duty(fair enough).
But what the **** is 'Duties', and 'Brokerage Surcharges'?
There is a way around it, but Im staying 'stum'. The sneaky ******* are probably reading this.

Get stuff unwrapped and no receipts sent as gifts. I tend to order a lot around this time and some of the shops even "Christmas wrap" it all up.... never fails.

Choose your suppliers carefully. I use CD Wow and they refund any customs charges if they are levied. DVD Soon print the price of each item on the case, and no matter what it is, it's always below the £18 threshold , for example, I bought the Alien Quad box set for £41.50, packaging stated value at £15.99 . One big tip is to make sure each item is dispatched separately, then only the priciest boxsets will be dodgy. Order them one at a time, as some places will package them together, others always ship each item separately. I haven't bought a DVD/CD in the UK for over a year, and so far haven't been stung by Mr.Taxman once, yet
