I was pottering around the shops on a day off yesterday and thought I really should buy a copy of Donnie Darko on DVD.

I was chatting to a guy in the DVD shop who says that the DVD will be deleted at the end of December/beginning of January!

Something to do with the film company not wanting to be associated with the 'Mad World' song, which is a bit strange as I'm sure more sales of the DVD have happened since the song!

After a quick scan on Play and Amazon, they both have the DVD for about £15.

I don't know if it's true, but I will investigate further!

Needless to say, my copy from Play should be turning up in the next day or so!

Could have save you a few quid. £7.99 here plus you could get another quid or two off that with the voucher tricks from AV Forums

I paid a bit more for mine, but I'm getting the Dutch version with the DTS soundtrack

You means Radio 1 have been playing it and plugging the film like crazed people... especially Steve Mills when he had at his record of the week when he was doing the Breakfast Show.

Places are being sold out of it apparently becuase of the interest in the record!

Is it worth seeing?

Mark, (belated birthday greetings BTW! )

It's a film you're either going to love or hate!

Caroline thought it was a straight to TV movie, something for Channel 5!

A good friend of mine and myself, who do like our movies, think it's a brilliant film!

It's not a big budget movie, but not everyone understands or will try to understand a time paradox!

Someone at work has just described it as....

"Groundhog Day for intellectuals"

I don't agree, it's more....

"Groundhog Day for intellectuals" on acid!!!

Rent it from Blockbusters and make your own mind up!

I will try to rent it but the Blockbusters near me is less than rubbish... I might buy and then have to kill you if I don't like it!

Something to do with the film company not wanting to be associated with the 'Mad World' song
Any insight as to why?

Because they are dumb and don't want to make a tonne more money as people are wanting to watch the movie as a result of the song... see the radio one comment!

I don't know, it was something the guy in the shop told me!

I've had a scan on the internet, but I can't find any mention of it being deleted!

I guess they want to sell the film on it's own merits, and not off a cheesy remake of a song!

Then again, it was hearing the song that reminded me to buy the DVD, which I've been meaning to do for a while!

BTW - Play are now out of stock!

Cracking film IMO. Odd one really as I wanted to buy the soundtrack after seeing the film. Mad World has been superbly done IMO and suits the film to a T. Incidentally CD WOW are selling it for £7.99 but it's region 1 only.

There's lots of people saying that 'Mad World' is going to be the Crimbo No.1 Now I love the song but how bloody depressing for this (suposedly) festive time of year. God I'd even prefer Cliff to hit the top spot, nah actually **** Cliff gimmie Gary Jules anyday

Just read this...

Donnie Darko.

An excellent cult movie about a borderline-schizophrenic adolescant who starts having visions of a six foot rabbit named Frank, who has come to warn him that the world is coming to and end. A thought provoking film about time-travel, apocalyptic visions and the wonders of reality.

This I've got to see !!

Personally I would recommend seeing the film before you start reading some of the websites about it!

Ummm I think it has a Costa in it, a largeish shopping centre, oh there is a GAP and two McD's... ummm... a camping shop (not the Askew type)... some bars and clubs... banks and a Snappy Snaps!

So there!

Well I went for the nearest town centre rather than the high street near me!

It took me that long to remember what was there!

That'll be Scott Mills then

My copy from CD-WOW is en-route as I ordered it last week to see what all the fuss is about.

When I went to the Blockbusters for it, the guy gave me a funny look, asked what the movie was about and that I was the 6th person to come in that day for it!
