Hi folks, I`d like to ask for a little help if I may.

I`ve decided to move into the 21st century and get a digital camera. This move will be hampered by a lack of funds, so I am looking at the budget end of the market as a stepping stone.

After looking around for a few weeks and reading reviews etc I had thought that I would be limited to a low end Kodak for my money. Having used my brother in laws DX3500 I was surprised that the results seemed to be passable, at least for my needs. But, the lack of optical zoom is a down point.

I have since come accross the Canon Powershot A60 and the Fuji Finepix A205. The Canon seems to be an average price of £195 on the highstreet and the Fuji slightly lower. I have since found the fuji @ £126.99 in Boots and the Canon @ £129.99 on Amazon.

My question after all this rambling is,
have any of you had experience of these camera and ideas on which would be the best to go for?
This will end up being the families main camera and as such will need to be consistent in it`s performance and not overly complicated due to my wife being a woman

Thanks for your patience

mage

Both are good cameras in that part of the market. I would go for the Canon myself, mainly because I always have.

However, I find the easiest way to sort it all out in your head is to write down what features you must have. Then see which cameras match the spec. Every other feature is just gloss.

Also look at the cost/availability of any accessories you may need. Include in this batteries (important), memory cards, cases etc.

Quality Reviews Here:
Canon A60 (multi page review)
FujiFilm FinePix A205 (multi page review)

Cheers

We got a digi camera at work the other day,Kodak....£200.I was amazed at the quality. The stuff in the £150-200 range is good stuff nowadays.
Personally you shouldnt go wrong with either of the above.
I'm thinking of getting a Nikon Coolpix 2100.

from Amazon.

£142.00.

The deciding factor in my choice was that the Canon has a huge amount of features and manual options for a £200 camera. The fact that I`m paying £130 for it makes it unmissable

Thumbs up

A70 gets my thumbs up. (A70 is the 3.2 mega pixel version - A60 is almost identical)

Nice piece of kit, loads of features (i.e manual shutter speed, aperture, ISO, focus, exposure, video, panoramic etc.) and does point and shoot stuff well if your not bothered and just leave it on AUTO. Batteries (use 1800mAh Rechargeables) last ages. Software is nice and simple (Although I prefer to use ACDSee to view pics with).

Only flaws I found is that it's a little heavy (not noticable though), and comes with a measly 16meg flash card (needs 128meg at least).
