Yes this is what u do

Go back at the same time

Take pictures
note the time
note down the light levels
where there any signs ,this doess include the gatso sign even though they are useing lasers
was it on a bend
was the road clear of traffic
How built up is the area
are there schools around
Ask for the calibration certificate of the gun

How many points did u have prior to this etc

I dont know what the situation is,but it does sound a bit like entrapment

57 in a 30. Probably be looking at a discretionary ban for that. Depends on the magistrates.

Thumbs down

Sorry to say this but it aint entrapment if he was right up your **** flashing his lights and you could not pull over to let him pass then that may be entrapment but this aint, it's still a bitch though, hope you don't get banned
[entrapment would be an undercover copper trying to talk you into buying some knock off beer and then nicking you when you said ok,it would never stand up in court and rightly so]
oh yeah and do what virgin said so at least you can show you weren't bieng wreckless,i'm presuming conditions were not obviously dangerous, your solicitor could then use this info to point out to the bench that allthough you were speeding you were bieng sensible(allthough that will be difficult doing 57 in a 30 )

IIRC they should be wearing reflective clothing, it should be part of their health and safety guidelines whilst working on a road (especially at night).

Weather this actually could be used to overturn the case is another matter.

Attend court- dress reasonably smartly. When asked to speak say you knew what speed you were doing, you were taking a stupid risk, you were sorry and it will not happen again. Do not say 'I didn't know what speed I was doing' because you are getting into 'driving without due care' territory. Throw yourself on the mercy of the magistrate. If you can, get a letter from your employer saying you need your licence for work.

Not stuff you'd like to hear, but it came from a magistrate aquaintance and it got my wife a fine and no ban for 100.8mph on a dual cw. With a clean licence for that many years you may be ok.

As has been said, 57 in a 30 zone has no defense really. If I had been caught doing it, which is entirely possible, I would just accept it.
Weren't there a few threads a while back which suggested you are better off not attending the hearing?

guys,

don't bash him about the speed. he knows what you are going to say. i doubt he drives around at 57mph in a 30 all the time. a quick blast for a few seconds can cost you we're only human.

I am not bashing him. I have done it but haven't been caught. If I was I would be p1ssed off but accept I was at fault & have a huge grudge for traffic cops

I don't know why so many people post threads like these as the result is always the same. You get some advice then the 'holier than thou' brigade arrive and castigate you for speeding.

FFS he knows he was speeding and he's just asking for advice not for an inquisition. To all those preaching can you honestly say you have never been a bit silly with your speed. Of course most of you can't and if you can what the f**k are you doing owning or aspiring to own a car with around 250bhp for then.

harrymonk,

Good luck mate and isn't it interesting how our coppers can find time to do this at 1:00am, but would be no doubt too busy to attend your house if you were being burgled?

tiggers.

Bad news Harrymonk - Did you ask them why they were doing a check on a really wide road with no parked cars on ?

I think 30 mph over the indicated speed limit means a ban. For 57 in a 30 you may well get 6 points plus a fine. Find a solicitor who specialises in these things and cross your fingers.

medders,

I didn't mean the same coppers should attend burglaries as well you know. I was merely commenting on how our beloved coppers' resources are deployed by their senior officers. Stop trying to pick a fight where there isn't one
