Overheating HELP!!!
#1
Hi folks. I have a 98 Transit LWB Hi Cube with 76K on the clock. I have a problem with overheating, which only occurs when driving hard (70MPH) or when the engine is working hard ie driving up a steep hill. Although the guage has never actually gone into the the red it gets very close, ie letter "a" of normal which is just over 3/4 way up! The engine aint loosing coolant, we have checked the rad, changed the stat and temp probe. The latter did seem to bring the temp on the guage down slightly but it still goes too high for comfort. The van never heats when ticking over or stuck in traffic. One final thing is the injector pump which was changed by the previous owner, has been turned up on this van to give it a bit more poke as it was very slow. Any advice is greatly appreciated as Im getting sick of constantly monitoring the temp. Thanks in advance for replies.

I don't know much about Transit vans but I'll have a stab at it...
I presume you have checked the entire cooling system i.e. radiator, pump, thermostat etc?
Also check the belt tension on the water pump, it may be slipping. Get the catalyst checked, blocked Cats can cause overheating.
If the engine has been modded to increase the power or the fuel/air mixture has been altered then chances are it may be producing more heat. The cooling might simply be inadequate for the changes.
Adding something like "Water Wetter" to the coolant may help to reduce the temp.
