Pubs all around the country are selling lager for £5 a pint. Bascially all bottles are typically around £2.50 and they are half pints so pint = £5 or so.
I drink real beer (good ol' bitter or czech lager) and when I pay £2.50 I get a WHOLE pint!
No real reason for this post except someone at work commented that he drank 8 lagers last night. Further prodding found out that they were bottled beers so he actually had 4 pints and payed over £20 for the 'pleasure'. FFS I drink 8 PINTS for that amount of money AND it tastes nice
Am I getting too old?

What makes matters worse, is when you see how much the pubs themselves pay for the bottles. Absolute rip off.
I used to drink Becks all the time, but I can't justify spending more on half a pint (bottle) than on a full one.

its called disposable income, they might drive clapped out Fiesta's so £5 per pint is nothing to them. besides some lagers taste much better from a bottle!
What gets me in pubs is when bar staff say 'I am just waiting for your Guiness to settle' when 1) they then forget your pint and serve half a dozen other people & 2) if you drink Guiness, you feckin know it has to settle!!!! Muppets

You also get the stupid barstaff who don't think to pour the guiness FIRST!. I'll have a pint of guinness, two pints of bitter, a g&T etc. and they proceed to pour the bitters, g&t etc. BEFORE the Guiness. Where WERE they when brain cells were handed out? And if they were there, why did they ask for just the one?

Last time I was down London way, at a family bash, they were charging £6 for the cheapest larger (in this case it wsa stella). You couldn't put your pint down for 10second without fear of the scally bar-stweards nicking it!!
My local charges £2.40 for carling , which the crapest lager IMO (why is it the UK's best selling larger when its so crap??). They don't even sell any decent cask stuff, it's all southern stuff like London Pride etc
Ahh I remeber the days when you could get Brew XI for £1.10 and a pint of Fossies for £1.50. Those days are long gone I think (unless I gatecrash an NSU bar )

If no-one went to these places, they'd have to either change their pricing policy or go out of business. Seems like there's a lot of stupid, more money than sense, posing, sanctimonious @r5eh0les who'd rather brag about how much things cost and how much they spend than show how intelligent they are and able to see through a complete and utter blazingly obvious rip-off. Where I live there are a lot of pubs closing down due to lack of custom as "ordinary" people stay at home with a bottle of wine and a DVD, saving cash and avoiding trouble.
I grew out of the club scene a long time ago, but was quite into the Madchester and rave scene. We used to meet up at someones house, get trashed on cheap vodka and perhaps something from the "classified" (A/B/C) section, then go to a club at around midnight with a bottle of water. Happy, cheap days

You can get cheap weatherspoons (sp?) but you couldn't pay me to go in one. No class and fight central, plus no music. I'd rather pay more and go somewhere with quality tunes, people who are only out for a good night and not have to worry about a pint glass being smashed over your head!

I like the weatherspoons up our end !! Carling & Fosters only 99p a pint & Stella........ £1.50 Only thing is it's a really boring pub... As they don't have entertainment licence. No music . We once started singing & got threatened to be barred She said that they could get shut down as it was a form of entertainment !!!!

where do you pay £5 a pint. I drink in the Green Man on the end of Cheapside (next to bank in the square mile) and it's just less than £2.50 for guiness and Stella ()
(I'll be in there this lunchtime if anyone wants to meet for a beer)

If you think a fiver per pint is bad, how about £15 for a bottle of water in a club in St Tropez!!
Or £15,000 for a magnum of Cristal champage (goes without saying, I didn't...) but I saw a couple of people drinking from them - one being Mr P Diddy diddy doo daa...
The people who I went there with told me that they regularly spend £300+ per night when going out in St Tropez/Monaco
