Pubs all around the country are selling lager for £5 a pint. Bascially all bottles are typically around £2.50 and they are half pints so pint = £5 or so.

I drink real beer ;) (good ol' bitter or czech lager) and when I pay £2.50 I get a WHOLE pint! :p :D:D

No real reason for this post except someone at work commented that he drank 8 lagers last night. Further prodding found out that they were bottled beers so he actually had 4 pints and payed over £20 for the 'pleasure'. FFS I drink 8 PINTS for that amount of money AND it tastes nice ;) :D:D

Am I getting too old? :D

scoobydooooo 28 November 2003 10:52 AM

because they are pissed !! :D
years ago i remember saying , if beer hits £2 a pint they can shove it !! well that didn't happen !

Scooby96 28 November 2003 10:55 AM

Find a pub that does £1 a pint during premiership games until the first goal is scored. Not so good if you're watching Man U vs Southampton

Duck_Pond 28 November 2003 10:55 AM

What makes matters worse, is when you see how much the pubs themselves pay for the bottles. Absolute rip off.

I used to drink Becks all the time, but I can't justify spending more on half a pint (bottle) than on a full one.

STi wanna Subaru 28 November 2003 11:00 AM

Don't go to Ibiza then...... you'd cry at the price of a bottle of beer in a club.

fitzscoob 28 November 2003 11:01 AM

i was having a meeting in the dorchester a while back, i had a shandy (not normaly a shandy drinking girl, didnt want to stink of booze when my customer came in), £8 for a pint of shandy ! glad i only had one

Scooby96 28 November 2003 11:01 AM

I got charged 200 pesetas for some ice cubes in Amnesia about 5 years ago!!

scoobydooooo 28 November 2003 11:04 AM

is that a country ?? :D

Bravo2zero_sps 28 November 2003 11:04 AM

Most expensive beer I bought was in Ibizia too, £9 for a pint  holy fek! It was £4.50 just for a tiny bottle of water

Scooby96 28 November 2003 11:05 AM

I quite like Hotel de Vin in Tun Wells - bit more expensive but you get a bowl of pistachios and a bowl of olives "free"

David_Wallis 28 November 2003 11:09 AM

I hate paying £2.50 for a pint of stella in leeds city centre on a lunch time.

hmm new thread time.

David

Scooby96 28 November 2003 11:10 AM

scoobydooooo

cant remember :D

RichWalk 28 November 2003 11:11 AM

its called disposable income, they might drive clapped out Fiesta's so £5 per pint is nothing to them. besides some lagers taste much better from a bottle!

What gets me in pubs is when bar staff say 'I am just waiting for your Guiness to settle' when 1) they then forget your pint and serve half a dozen other people & 2) if you drink Guiness, you feckin know it has to settle!!!! Muppets

Dracoro 28 November 2003 11:17 AM

You also get the stupid barstaff who don't think to pour the guiness FIRST!. I'll have a pint of guinness, two pints of bitter, a g&T etc. and they proceed to pour the bitters, g&t etc. BEFORE the Guiness. Where WERE they when brain cells were handed out? And if they were there, why did they ask for just the one?

ALi-B 28 November 2003 11:17 AM

Last time I was down London way, at a family bash, they were charging £6 for the cheapest larger (in this case it wsa stella). You couldn't put your pint down for 10second without fear of the scally bar-stweards nicking it!!

My local charges £2.40 for carling , which the crapest lager IMO (why is it the UK's best selling larger when its so crap??). They don't even sell any decent cask stuff, it's all southern stuff like London Pride etc :(

Ahh I remeber the days when you could get Brew XI for £1.10 and a pint of Fossies for £1.50. Those days are long gone I think :( (unless I gatecrash an NSU bar ;))

corradoboy 28 November 2003 11:18 AM

If no-one went to these places, they'd have to either change their pricing policy or go out of business. Seems like there's a lot of stupid, more money than sense, posing, sanctimonious @r5eh0les who'd rather brag about how much things cost and how much they spend than show how intelligent they are and able to see through a complete and utter blazingly obvious rip-off. Where I live there are a lot of pubs closing down due to lack of custom as "ordinary" people stay at home with a bottle of wine and a DVD, saving cash and avoiding trouble.
I grew out of the club scene a long time ago, but was quite into the Madchester and rave scene. We used to meet up at someones house, get trashed on cheap vodka and perhaps something from the "classified" (A/B/C) section, then go to a club at around midnight with a bottle of water. Happy, cheap days :D

Scooby96 28 November 2003 11:24 AM

One good reason for not going to cheap pubs:

The Opera House, Tunbridge Wells

Full of pikeys, scum and OAP's all day everyday (more so on dole/pension day)!!

STi wanna Subaru 28 November 2003 11:30 AM

You can get cheap weatherspoons (sp?) but you couldn't pay me to go in one. No class and fight central, plus no music. I'd rather pay more and go somewhere with quality tunes, people who are only out for a good night and not have to worry about a pint glass being smashed over your head!

Scooby_Dan. 28 November 2003 11:33 AM

I like the weatherspoons up our end !! Carling & Fosters only 99p a pint & Stella........ £1.50 :D:D:D:D:D Only thing is it's a really boring pub... As they don't have entertainment licence. No music :(:(:(:(. We once started singing & got threatened to be barred  She said that they could get shut down as it was a form of entertainment !!!!

Scooby_Dan. 28 November 2003 11:34 AM

STi wanna Subaru - beat me to it !!

Fosters 28 November 2003 11:51 AM

where do you pay £5 a pint. I drink in the Green Man on the end of Cheapside (next to bank in the square mile) and it's just less than £2.50 for guiness and Stella (:D)

(I'll be in there this lunchtime if anyone wants to meet for a beer)

STi wanna Subaru 28 November 2003 11:53 AM

Fosters, trying to pick up men on the internet......... that's low that is!! :p :D

Fosters 28 November 2003 12:04 PM

Got a few women on the go, so don't need to pick up you SIAL geeks :p

STi wanna Subaru 28 November 2003 12:05 PM

lol :D

ChristianR 28 November 2003 12:18 PM

I remember paying £15 for a cheese n tomato toastie in manumission, ahh but it sure did taste good!

ChrisB 28 November 2003 01:46 PM

The Cafe in Casino Square in Monte Carlo was 10 Euros for about 3/4 of a pint when I was there in Jan

andym172 28 November 2003 03:09 PM

If you think a fiver per pint is bad, how about £15 for a bottle of water in a club in St Tropez!! :o :(

Or £15,000 for a magnum of Cristal champage (goes without saying, I didn't...) but I saw a couple of people drinking from them - one being Mr P Diddy diddy doo daa...

The people who I went there with told me that they regularly spend £300+ per night when going out in St Tropez/Monaco :o :o :o

Scooby96 28 November 2003 03:13 PM

£300 or £300k ?

Scooby_Dan. 28 November 2003 04:07 PM

Thats how the other half live!!

Tim-Grove 28 November 2003 04:24 PM

Went to Space (that's a club for all you old feekers:D) in Ibiza this year and the 330ml bottle's of San-Meg were €8 and a vodka-redbull was €12:eek: spent nearly 80quid in there:D
