Folks,

I'm off to Edinburgh for NYE with the GF and just wanted some advice on best pubs etc? Our tickets have also arrived for the street party...Whens the best time to head down?

Cheers
John

As for pubs - on the night, don't expect anywhere central to be quiet or easy to get into.....you should head down into the centre before 11pm if possible....it is VERY busy. The Mound is usually a good place to stand, but can be very squashed...you get a good view of the fireworks on the Castle from there.

Oh, and watch out for the bottles falling on your head come the bells.

Outwith the 31st, pubs to be seen in include Opal Lounge on George St (Prince William goes there), and a whole host of other posing bars on George St. Depends what you are into.....quiet or trendy or cheap or characterful?

Thanks,

I think we'll head down nice and early to have a few drinks
and get in to the mood!

Probably best having a good few drinks before you go out.
As getting to the bar always takes ages.

Plenty pubs along Rose St, although they're not the best compared to George St. (only 2 mins walk from each other)

West end has a few decent bars too, but thats next to one of the ticket boundary points, so may be really busy too.

Oh..and watch your feet for drunken 15yr olds lying on the pavement chucking their guts up !!

Remember to wrap up warm - it can get VERY cold standing around. Great fun though. There's usually some form of performing acts on George St on the night of the 30th I think......

Was there last year

Bugger the pubs, they are absolutely heaving. Get a carry out from Vicky wine on Castle Street and enjoy the festivities instead of being crammed into a pub (you just wont enjoy yourself in one, trust me).
