All I can say is wow. What a reception. There was thousands there. I got there at about 3 and there was already about 1000 people there. Got near the front anyway !!!
Spoke to a policeman and he said they were totally caught out and didnt expect anywhere near the 5000 or so that had turned up.
All the players looked knackered but in awe of the situation. The William Webb Ellis cup looked amazing as Neil Back carried it past me.
Awesome, i wont forget that in a hurry.
Dave (with bags under me eyes)
[Edited cos i got summat wrong - told you i am not a die hard rugger fan.]

Good for you making the effort to go out there. Looked great on CNN....the players looked stunned !!
I didnt go as Im in Tokyo. Sat night was one of the best nights of my life. Wifey is still not talking to me (Aussie)...and all pub tokens, sex tokens have been made invalid.....worth it though.

of course the players would looked stunned. No one shows any interest in them or their sport until they win something. Ah the fickle fans, you gotta love them.

Imlach-Jealously is a very destructive emotion. Not only would you probably go and meet a Scotland team at the airport if they won a World Cup, you'd probably offer to carry their bags.
Guess we'll never know

Jealousy - nope, I've already stated on Scoobynet my congrats to the england team...
Just don't see the obsession over seeing a bunch of guys in an airport
You can do that 24/7/365

I am not an avid rugby follower. I did watch all the England World Cup matches, but could probably not name everyone in the team or name all the teams they faced.
I made the decision to go last night, and basically its all about having some pride in your national team. So many people are so quick to slag off this country for anything/everything but not stand up and pat people on the back when things are going well. I just wanted to make a point that yes I am proud of them and proud to be English.
Yes its only a bunch of lads that play rugby, but they beat the rest of the World at it. In my book that deserves some praise, support and me getting up early for one day of my life.
Anyway, typical comments coming from the Scots lads anyway. One day you'll win something...

The team must have been amazed at the reception at Heathrow. I bet that will mean more to them than whatever follows. My congrats to those who were able to go and made such a magnificent effort.
I am surprised to see the "sour grapes" comments on this thread. Even most of the Aussies were prepared to give our team full credit for an outstanding performance and the result.

Agree with Imlach.
Also if I was a player I'd actually feel embarrassed all the "wannabee on tv'ers" turned up as we landed just so they feel important in saying "I was there, I'm now certified as an important person".

Leslie - can you not read?! I never said anything against England so it is not "sour grapes"!!!!!!! I have every respect for their achievement.
All I said is that it is a bit sad going to an airport to see 30 grown men at 5am in the morning
...and no, I didn't stay up to watch curling!

What an absolute load of negative bollocks being sprouted on this thread.
England are justified World Champions.
It was an awesome game and the best team won. Finally putting England on top of the world.
If you're not prepared to say something positive about a group of guys performing on the greatest stage in their chosen profession why not just button it.
So much tosh about national pride etc in other threads. Makes me bloody laugh.
Well done to all those who went to Heathrow and caused me to get to work over an hour late. Look forward to it happening next year when we win the European Championships.
No matter how surprised the players were at the reception I'll bet they'll be well happy when relating the tale to their loved ones.
I don't like skating but when I hear Bolero I think of Torville and Dean. Mention Ravel and I think of chocolates

Bajie - is there ANYTHING negative on this thread about England's achievement? I can't see it!!! All the sentiment seems to be about jealousy and scotland!
Guys - READ the thread properly!!!!!!!
You're a bunch of muppets.

Is Heathrow not already in England?
Good on 'em not hugely into rugby but it is nice to see the nation rally around. A credit as well, you can't imagine them threatening to strike!

Fair enough Imlach, but I don't see why they should not have got a bit of a special welcome home, I think it was well deserved as did the people who turned up at Heathrow to do that. It certainly was not just to say that they had been there and to feel important as Spoon said. It was obvious from the TV report that they were there because of the team's achievement. I would have been there too had it been possible. Nothing wrong in the English being proud of their team!

Les- How the fúck do you know it was?
My comment was proven in the fact Druddle can't be a genuine rugby fan if he named the cup incorrectly.
Fair play to him if he wanted to go and for the other thousands who turned out.
I could only possibly go if I'd watched every game they have ever played and supported them passionately, otherwise I'd feel a knób.
For the record I never went to Princess Di's funeral either, I never met the woman.

Spoon-I only watch England Football/Rugby games, does that make me any less a Rugby/Football fan?
Do you watch every football game going (if thats what you like)? I would have gone to the airport this morning if i could, to show that i support the English teams effort in the World Cup-seeing as they get a total hammering in the media etc usually.

Errrr, yes it does make you less of a rugby/football fan but it makes you more of an England rugby/football fan although without actually going to watch them live and spending your money to pay their wages then it doesn't quite make you a genuine fan.

I never said i hadn't been to see them live- Ive seen England football games live.
I don't see why people shouldn't feel proud of the Rugby team and want to show it regardless of whether they've seen 1 match on tv or 20.
