I've already said i am not a die hard rugger lad, but what I am is patriotic and proud of the team for what they acheived, for which I wanted to show them this.

I am not trying to prove myself as a rugger lad, or go round saying "hey look i was there, see me on the telly, i know all the team by first name now cos i saw them really close".

I would say that 1/2 of the crowd were "proper" rugger fans but the rest were like me, there to show our appreciation and say well done. Oh and i did get on telly (GMTV) but it was the back of my head as i refused to turn round and start singing with the ***** and pretend i was a keen rugger fan.

I never said i hadn't been to see them live
No, and I never implied you did. I was merely answering your question and stating in my opinion that, had you seen them live you would qualify for fan status.

Anyway, they won and not only that, they beat the Aussies which counts as 2 wins.

Question

So PG what other sports do you see 000's of fans welcoming back home the national team after a defeat???

I am not a huge football fan nor am I a rugby fan and as such I would not turn up to see them arrive at the airport.
I dont see the point in becoming a glory seeking fan. All just IMO
at the end of the day I have never had the chance anyway
Good show to all those who play and do well for their country but if I was one of them I wouldnt want your glory hunting / pity support.
My sport (basketball) has a very poor following and playing base in this country and if a national team won anything and were greeted at the airport by any more than a handfull of fans I would lmao.

How has showing support for a team become glory seeking?

Spoon you fool. It was a lighthearted quip at some of the comments already on this thread. HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO ******* SAY I am not a keen rugger fan and did not go there to be able to say that I had, or to get on telly (dont you think i would have been facing the right way and jumping around pretending to be a die hard fan if i had), i just wanted to show some support and congratulations to the team.

Jesus fookin wept, is it really that hard to grasp ? Am i talking a different language ?

Talking

LOL at this thread. Only in England.

Seems that people are so unaccustomed to success of a national team that they don't quite know how to cope with it. So everyone gets over excited and a big fight breaks out.

Unclebuck- Hardly a big fight. Some people just get a little defensive when others apparently embarrass them.

I haven't a clue who but I'll Druddle on through anyway

Spoon, I play rugby every weekend, train 3 times a week and watch every England game I can on TV when I'm not playing, I have never seen them live because of playing. I have played/followed rugby since i was 7 because i have never seen my country live does this make me a lesser fan??

I have never seen them live because of playing.
Have you seen the prices of tickets for the Six Nations as well?

I'd look at taking my Dad to Twickenham recently for a Christmas pressie. Gave up when I found you're looking at a minimum of £250 per person!

Spoon,

It was obvious when watching the TV pictures of the team's arrival, and the incredible welcome that they got as soon as they appeared in the terminal that the fans were there in genuine support of the team and not for any other reason. Why else would they be prepared to wait from the previous evening to see them. Maybe you are not prepared to be seen giving a bit of honest praise for a real achievement by someone else, but alll those fans were.
