Cool

Guess the majority of peeps here are SKY Digital or summat but we've never been drawn by the lure of having to pay £30 per month on top of the TV licence & then pay extra for movies etc.

Anyhow, Ch5 here in the boonies has been cr@p & as its really good for kiddies in the morning, we've been missing it

So we got the local TV engineer in to have a look-see what he could do & he reckoned he could get Freeview, despite not being in an aledged cover area

Off to Currys for a £60 box, a new hi-gain aerial & we're digitised

Loads of extra choice + Ceebeebies [sp] which'll be great for Ez & its all FREE

Shame Broadband is not so available

Puff - Almost all exchanges had a trigger level annouced yesterday.

I've got 102/250 (some are as low as 100 - some 500). There is light at the end of the tunnel (even it is quite dim, flickering and a long way off!)

Richer Sounds have repackaged Grundigs for £40, or new ones from £50.

Aerial: £20 to £25 for a halfway decent one. Installer: anything from £50 to £250 depending on where they have to put it, the quality of the materials used, and the time/care they take over pointing it in the right direction.

Has anyone checked what is available on Freeview?
It's all crap, that's why you get it for nothing.

Worth digital radio on its own, much better quality than DAB.

If your Freeview box has an optical/coax audio output, hook it up to your AV Receiver and listen to concerts in Pro Logic II. Makes it all worthwhile.

Also being able to receive CH5 makes it worth it (sometimes).

But best of all, on Freeview, just about everything is sent widescreen (unlike analogue terrestial).

Defo worth the money and hassle of setting it up.

Cheers

ITS WIDESCREEN????

Well there is a clincher...

Is it proper 'anamorphic' 16:9 full frame widescreen and not just blown up in the box with a £5 chip????

D

I pay £18/month for my sky channels. I don't have the movie or sports stuff.

The reason I went for it initially was because the local terrestrial reception was cr@p.

The picture quality we get now on satellite is excellent, so I'm very pleased.

I guess it really depends on what sort of TV channels you want. Personally, I'm happy with the cheapo package, as we get UKGold, GPlus, all the Discovery channels, kids stuff, news etc. In fact, I think the only things we don't get are the sky movies, sky sports and some of the Disney stuff.

Talking

I pay £38 for the full monty on Sky very nice.

Plus 40 quid for the premiership plus. £1 a game very cheap.

I dont see the point in free view £80 for a box to watch 8 BBC channels that repeat BBC1 sh1te

Diesel,

Yep, pukka 16:9. OK, not every programme is sent widescreen but most (normal channels) are and they fill the frame on my Sony widescreen with the TV set to "Wide". I.e. they are not simply reshaping the image to fit, it is proper wide.

The only programme that I'm really suprised they don't do in widescreen is the ITV news. What's that all about ?

Cheers

Puff,

At least you will get superior terrestrial channel picture quality.

Do you really believe anything the guys in Comet (Dixons/Currys/PC World etc.) tell you ? I certainly don't

Can't get CH5 here on analogue terrestial, never have been able to. But we can get digital terrestial no problem and that includes CH5.

Cheers

Agree Ian - this is why I watch BBC news; it fills my screen!!!

Also Parkinson is 4:3 - very strange that as any decent studio will have 16:9 switchable cameras.... They wouldnt survive otherwise! No broadcaster will take delivery of a 4:3 tape these days, and if you send them one it better have an antique certificate to get them off yer back! CD:UK is unfortunately 4:3 too but I'm in on that chat at the mo'

Off to get a box
