dvd / freeview / video / tv set up - help !!!!
Help, have spent the last four hors trying to tune the inlaws tv / video / freeview box and dvd in for them with no joy, can get the dvd player to work, the freeview works on its own and the dvd player works on its own, link them al together and cant get them all working together !!!
now the freeview box only has one scart socket on the back, so a switchable scart box was purchased to manualy switch between the three boxes because off the freeview only having this one scart.
own freeview box has two scarts and have just done the same job myself ( ie set all them up together with no probs ) sister in law says her freview only has one scart and she has dvd / video etc all hooked up okay.
so can a freeview box with only one scart socket be succusfully used with a seperated dvd and video ?? any other possibly suggestions on getting this sorted would be great !!!
also any ideas why they sell f/view boxes only having this one scart if this is indeed the problem to the above ??
cheers,
john

Most freeview boxes also have an RF output so if a slight loss in picture transfer using this may be an option.
Alternatively, you could run the freeview box via scart into the vcr then that into the television.
Theres a number of ways it can be done depending on what the setup needs to do but those are probably the main two.

DVD - Scart to TV
Freeview - Scart to VCR
VCR - Scart to TV (if TV only has one scart use the scart switcher to switch between DVD & VCR, or use RF for the VCR)

as carradoboy says.
DVD output is encoded so it cant be copied by a VCR (unless you buy extra decoding boxes), so the output from that goes straight to the TV.
Freeview box is just an output device but outputs programs you can record, so connect its scart output into the VCR, you then use the VCR scart input chanel as your recording source.
Connect VCR to TV via their respective second scart conections. You dont need a scart splitter to do any of this.
Then finally use the UHF coax conector as follows. From ariel to Freeview Box, out of freeview box to VCR, out of VCR to TV. This gives you the most flexibility and best signal path for watching and recording.

You can get a "chipped" scart from www.techtronics.com which will allow DVD to VCR recording. I have one and it works a treat, also from NTL/SKY digibox to record encoded films and PPV etc. Will also allow copying to DVD recorders (except Philips).
A bit expensive at 50quid, but half price when bought with a DVD player
