Freeview on a Sky box
My dad called today to tell me he's cancelled his Sky subscription purely because theres not enough good material on to justify £40 a month.
He intends to switch to freeview and I had intended to get him a Freeview box but I seem to remember somebody telling me once you had cancelled sky (he's been with them a few years) the box and dish are your property and can then be used to receive freeview.
Is this true or rubbish?
Cheers

When I switched to NTL earlier this year I got to keep my exisiting Sky dish and box, without having todo anything I get various things like ITV2, Men & Motors, CBeebies for the kids, few news channels etc I'm not sure it is all the freeview channels but it's ok for free...

Its rubbish Im afraid; not all of the Freeview channels are available on Sky..... He should be able to receive the five terrestrial channels though, using his existing card.

I did the same a while back and mainly use the freeview box. You will get more than just the terrestrial channels, like the quiz channels and errr babestation I think its called from the sky box.

You'll get all the FTA channels (bbc1-4, itv1-3, M&M xtreme 419, bbc news) without doing anything else after the cancellation of the contract - got it myself

You can get the terrestrial and FTA channel cards again now (after the BBC went FTA and withdrew funding). My point was that he couldnt get 'Freeview' through a Sky dish....., also that a new card wasnt required to receive the above channels if he still had his original viewing card.
