Gran had a Mk1 Golf GLS. She died and my mother had it. My mum bought an Audi so I inherited the golf. It was 21 years old when I sold it, we had it in the family for the last 18 of them!!!

Have fond memories of it and the stories of my youth etc. However when I sold it my mum was a bit sentimental about it but I was more concerned with the Mk2 Gti16v that was replacing it

Still wonder if the Mk1 is still out there still going. Probably not but who knows.

Having got a new car and thinking I had somewhere to store my lovely old MK2 Golf, I am now in the position of having to sell it because my storage space isnt available. I won the car in the daily mirror in 1988 (aged 18), my dad ran it for thirteen years and me for the last two. I have advertised it on Club GTI and have already had interest so it looks like it will be going at the weekend.

I suspect I am going to regret it as its been around almost half as long as I have, it started out being treated as sort of ok but not quite the 2.8 Capri my dad wanted but it will do to being one of the best cars he has ever driven, still is.

Do you have regrets from selling cars, I can still see my first love (MK1 Capri 1600 GTXLR) being driven away up the road. ditto the MK1 GTI lovingly restored and sold to an arsehole who killed it in six months.

I think I may even have a secret blub.

I did about the Scoob when I sold it on Saturday. It was the first really "performance" car I'd owned, and it never missed a beat. Went through a lot to get it too, and just prior to getting shot of I had all the little parking dings knocked out so it looked fantastic.

Cool

Had about 17 cars, gti's, cossies, gtir's, etc). Only ones I miss are my MK 1 Golf GTi, my 3rd Pulsar GTi-R and my Impreza WRX (sold it Friday)..

My sadness will end this Saturday when my dream car comes home with me

Mk1 was one of my favourite handling cars, really enjoyed it.

My 3rd gti-r was the quickest of the bunch and my favourite looker, plus at 2 years, was the longest I've owned a car, we went through a lot and it was super reliable.

My next one is going to be a R32 GTR, it's allready stage 1, and circa 380-400bhp , quite a mover

miss the mkI Mex, i had.

Pushed it more times than i cared to mention, and used to suck washing off the line, with the old twin 40's and ram pipes, but ah, the smell of petrol.
the rattly old dash when you red lined it.
.....the janspeed thru' the multistory.... great times.

wheelspinning out of every junction like Crazy Cooter.

eagerly awaiting the first snowfall...

but, you move on, like everything....

new cars dont have character.

come snowfall - I'll be out in the scoob in an empty car park (if I can find one)

I really miss my XR3. Well sort of, kinda love hate. As I loved it...and it hated me. And made it's point by breaking - often!

A divorce was the only option

I went through a lot of things with that car, and I get all remenicisant.....But it all goes pop if someone mentions the word "gearbox"

my astra GTE is finally finished. Bought in 1997, I have completely restored it, including new sills and arches, new engine, new front wing and front bumper. It looks mint. Cost me more money than I care to imagine and I prolly wont get it back. But as long as I can point the camera at it and make it go click Iwill be happy to see it go.
Its a project and i finish my projects.

I had a 1990 1.3 Escort. Never had a problem with it and eventually gave it my cousin. He's looked after the old girl for 4 years but now it is no longer He's at Uni in Bristol and Saturday night he went out and when he got back the car had been nicked The police found it yesterday a mile away from his house burned out. I'm devastated

I had a mini that was about 26 when I had it a 20 - sliding windows ( like a caravan ) and poxy hydrowhatsit suspension. The left had side had dropped at the front and the back, so the car was all set and ready to go - you could take 90 degree left handers in wimpy estates at about 40 mph - top laugh.

Disclaimer : never attempt the same manouvre in a triumph acclaim in the wet - large danger of unintentionally ram-raiding the off-licence, nearly killing the bloke stood outside.

sold the mini for £25 and wrote the acclaim off in a head on with a scirroco ( strangley enough, on the same wimpy estate, different bend though )

Thumbs up

Yeah, just started getting nostalgic recently..must be my age. Anyway as a partial cure i've decide to start collecting items related to all my past cars and bikes (sad i know!).

This week i've started by getting hold of a couple of haynes manuals and some original sales brochures and owners handbooks from Ebay.

I can see where this is leading me already!

I've had some crackers...
1969 Mk2 Cortina 1600 E
1972 Mk2 Capri 3000 E
1979 Mk1 Golf GTi 1600

1973 Yamaha FS1E
1978 Kawasaki KH 250
1980 Yamaha 350 LC (The 4th one ever made)
1989 Honda VFR 750

...amongst quite a few (more dreary)others.
Then there's the current Type RA and the KTM
....I'll get me coat!
Dave.

I sold my integrale a month ago and still won't look at a picture of it that one was the longest I had ever owned a car and I spent a very silly amount of money and more importantly time on it It's gone to a new owner that I know is looking after it though Hi Dai

Dave! The 4th 4LO 350LC made? Oooooh, nice.

Now whatever you do, don't visit the Yam RD forum. You know what will happen if you do .... you have been warned!

If you want any articles about tuning the non-YPVS RDs, let me know & I can email ...

1st car, renault 5, died when engine blew up, kept back number plate.
Second car, underpowered '93 astra, hated it for every moment I drove it, final straw was being overtaken by a hearse.
A few other nondescript ones. Then a celica, still have sentimental thoughts about losing it completely in the snow, and sailing backwards down the road.
Last car Bugeye GX, not a bad car, but now WRX and grinning every day, so don't miss the last one at all.

Brickboy.... STOP... now ....please!
The engine and frame numbers were (something like) 0000000000004.
I'd had mine ordered from Granbys in Ilkeston As soon as the piccies were released in MCN but was put on a waiting list. Then without warning i got a phone call saying that there was a cancelled order and did i want it?
I've never owned anything before or since that drew crowds like that thing did during the first few weeks of having it.

Dave.
