She's a humourless old trout, she suits the format of the program though- tired, lifeless and boring. Parkinson is such a sycophant.

One line answers, a refusal to talk about anything other than her new film, that sort of thing.
I've never seen Parky become so obviously irritated by a guest.
I *hope* it's just something she's going through, and not anything more serious like alcohol or drugs. She needs to take a long hard look at herself, before it really does go completely pear shaped.

"good job there's an off button"
I only saw 5 minutes of that crap, it stayed on long enough for me to see what a state that woman is, it was more than enough. I usually have better stuff to do than watch that rubbish, like pick my nose etc etc. Parkinson sucks.

I watched it and cringed all the way through the interview.
Pehaps there was some pre-show bad blood or politics playing out - who knows.
From the outset, Meg Ryan was unforthcoming with her replies and made a point of disagreeing with Parky at every turn.
Parky, on the other hand, displayed a serious lack of good interviewing skills by repeatedly hitting the self destruct button.
At one point he even asked her "if you were conducting this interview, what would you do next?" to which she replied "wrap it up!"
But he didn't. Instead, he said "I'm going to try going down another blind alley..."
It was up (or down) there with the infamous Blaine / Holmes interview.
Would be interesting to see what Wogan makes of on Points of View... if I could be ar$ed watching that....

The contrast between her and Shane Richie, whatever you think of him, was amazing. His interview was what you want from a celebrity interview on Saturday night - light-hearted, funny and entertaining.
Somebody told me that Parkinson doesn't have much say in who he gets to interview - which i would find surprising. Usually it's a very entertaining, if fairly whimsical show, with Parkinson making a quite difficult job look very easy. But i agree, he didn't quite know what to do with Ms Ryan. If it had been my show, i'd have asked Shane Richie to recall some more stories, and tell Ms Ryan to sling her hook!

AFAIK Meg Ryan has always had a reputation of being a petulant prima donna
Never seen the attraction of her myself, IMO she's always played the sort of characters that you wish would die a horrible painful death

Hate to disagree with all you chaps, but I thought she was brilliant! Showed Parky up for being the hopeless interviewer that he is. Mail on Sunday said that Beeb had offered his job to Anne Robinson...

Sorry to disagree with you, but some of the best interviews we've had on British television have been on Parkinson. Yes, he has to pander to them somewhat to get them to open up, but to label him as "hopeless" is in my opinion somewhat misguided.

I agree- about 2 decades ago, David Niven, Muhammed Ali etc. I haven't seen anyone or anything decent on Parkinson since the show was disinterred. The Russell Crowe debacle and this go to show it's time he was put out to pasture. His sycophancy makes me feel ill- and it seems to have got worse.

I think Parky is a great show.. in depth on the spot interviews it ain't.. amusing banter and stories it usually is.. Most stars wouldn't go for an in depth hard nosed interview, and to be honest, why should they? Makes it even more stupid when people with a commodity to sell come on and be **** holes.. Don't think it shows parky up myself, just gives you a snap shot of a 'star' that you then decide you can probably do without..

Personally i just don't see this sychophancy. I don't think it's intentional, it's just his style, what he thinks will relax the guest. If i wanted a hard-hitting, in your face, no-holds-barred, cut to the chase interview, Parkinson wouldn't be the person i'd choose.
But that's not what Saturday evening viewing is all about, in my opinion.

If you accept the invitation to go on a show like that then you should have the responsibility to go along with the interviewer and make a proper contribution to the show. I would have been sorely tempted when she said "Wrap it up" to have restarted the interviews with the other three people and ignored her. With a bit of luck she might even have walked off. I thought she demonstrated rank bad manners with no excuse.
As Telboy says, Parkinson has a particular style which is right for a Saturday evening. The other people suggested to replace him would be poor substitutes.

Anyone think she is turning into Lesley Ash?
What is Botox? She used to have a pretty, expressive face.
I know she is geting on, but she seems to have a permanent surprised look now.
