Exclamation

Was in comet today, smallest widescreen is 24 inch and they are actually more expensive than a 28inch(for a flatscreen that is).Only 50hz too.

LCD,£1000 to save a foot of space.....not justified imo.

Any thoughts?

Cool

I have a 46" Widescreen and full HC setup in the lounge and always have an eye for picture quality etc.

I wanted a widescreen set for the bedroom but didn't fancy paying through the nose for a mega set from the likes of Toshiba/Sony/Philips etc.

I finished up buying a Pacific 28" Widescreen from Asda for £229.
Its not the last word in picture performance but is fine for bedroom viewing.

Cheers

Cool

One word.....Kate Lawler...still not as nice as Kelly Brook though.

Gotta agree about the Sony Wega though.....a lot of money for a 50hz tv.

Do not buy bush, pacific, goodmans, alba (all the same anyway) or seg cos i can pretty much garentee it will break (i repair them for a living. Probably best to stay away from the combi tv/video's as well. Try and find a small panasonic tv, should last for a while with no probs.

Been in same dilemma. Currently use an older 14” Sony upstairs but am sick of watching long thin people from downstairs’ cable box. And no I cant ever remember to delve in the menus to change the box to 4:3 each night!

So I thought your tip from Tesco Neil is the solution & sod the bulk – the TFT’s are still way too expensive & cheap TFT’s are not widescreen.

D

PS Sonys are rather crap CRT TV’s imho – my 14” (the third I tried…) has always bounced on cuts from dark to light scenes & all the other big Sonys I’ve seen have had really bad geometry – (curved lamppost syndrome & non linear scans). These are 'features' if you moan. You should SEE the Sony ‘client monitors’ at the place they made the WRC TV opening sequence – they are all SO rubbish!

N3RwrxBOY,

I take your point on build quality but at the price some of these sets from Asda and co are sold at if they break out of warranty they go to the tip.

Asda also do the Schnieder sets with a 3 year replacement warrenty if that sort of thing worries you.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't consider one of the budget sets for prolonged viewing in the lounge or for a HC set up but for watching TV in bed for half an hour paying silly money for a Sony Wega and the like just isn't worth it.

If your after a 'cheap' ctv the best one out of a bad bunch is probably a beko, they usually only suffer from 2 'main' faults. one of which being the internal psu fuse which is easy and cheap to fix.

Neil..that sound like the sort of answer i'm looking for.
The Sony's etc are too expensive for a second tv and the smallest is 24inch at around 400 quid.I understand the comment about build quality, but for small widescreens your choices are rather limited.

As for LCD etc,not worth the extra to save around 12 inches of space.

Cheers

So N3 if you take that sucker off the side of the tube, get your mate to hold it and then if it dont make his hair spiky when you switch on to BBC1 then he's either already a dead friend or you have a dud line transformer ;-) Hours of fun with that one

Still havent had time to search for a cheapie...Beko is Turkish isnt it?
