Just insured the wifes car, rang around for quotations, she is currently with Frizzell.

The AA gave the most expensive quote (as always!) - BUT - when I said what the Frizzell renewal premium was he went away and got authority from his supervisor to undercut that by £10 .... AND add business use free, legal cover, courtesy car AND would protect her bonus!!

You're on I said!!

Got the papers through and the salesman had assumed how many years NCD my wife has, because Frizzell discount 65.5% after 3 years - unlike the AA policies that reach that discount after 4 - he had put down 4 years NCD.

I ring them up, 7 days into the policy, to tell them that they had assumed wrongly ................ guess what?? They now want a big hike in additional premium to keep the policy in force (and lose the protected discount!) Ok, I said - I would like to cancel and get my premium refunded in full .................. well, yes, they will do that - BUT, I have to pay an admin charge!!!

I have been the victim of sharp practise by The AA Insurance Services - they wanted my business - and mis-sold me a policy ..... knowing that they would receive money from me whichever way I jumped from then on!!

Beware if you contact AA Insurance Services - all may NOT be what it seems!!

The response is what you would have expected of a company in the the 60's or 70's - Tough Luck Mate!!!! Can't beleive it!!??

I was starting to think that companies were more customer focussed!!??

Imagine if we ever need to claim??!!

Yep, make an official complaint (make sure you use this term) and that you want them to give an answer as quickly as possible as you will be contacting the Financial Ombudsman.

They'll pull their finger out.

Gordo - they asked what NCD she had, I said 65.5% - they assumed that meant 4 years.

I also declared a claim made on her policy in Novemeber 1999 - so it was clear that she didn't quite have 4 years

The salemans words were, "Thats ok, its NEARLY 4 years isn't it?"

Its how they are treating us NOW - they almost refuse to co-operate, saying either cancel and pay hefty admin fines OR pay us MORE money for the policy to be kept!!

Watch out for the AA man!!

To think when I insured my Cossie they were the cheapest by far and threw in a free tracker fitted at my home.

pslewis- Maybe the salesman was someone off this board and thought he'd have the last laugh

Hello

Most insurance companies record telephone conversations, maybe you can get a transcript?

Ask for a transcript - if they say no then you know they've probably mis sold you the policy (something to hide) in which case enlist the GISC, FSA or Ombudsman whoever regulates Ins Co's at the moment.

1.After your(and mine last year) experience of the great service from Direct Line when you have a claim, why didn't you go with them?(even if its a bit more expensive)

Certainly the AA have lost my custom!! I will NEVER contact them again and will state that they are not to contact me EVER!!!

Mad as hell!! I cannot beleive that they are treating us like this all over a few pounds that they have now lost in bad publicity!!??

Complete madness ............... as paul says above, Direct Line were absolutely superb when we had to claim from one of their clients ............. they would be even better when wanting our business!! I am embarrassed that I didn't give them a call!!

Thanks all - ................ good news!! The manager dug out the recording and has admetted that they assumed the NCD was 4 years - I didn't actually say 4 years, I said 65.5%!!!

And accordingly, they will honour the policy as provided at the price agreed!!

Cor, result!! ......... mind you, they knew I meant business!

Thanks again everyone!!

Question

what do you think about this stitch-up then:

well known advertising co. with a banana colour phone directory come round to see me about renewing our adverts. i explain that despite spending about 11k with them last year, we hadn't received much benefit in terms of new business, so i would be looking to cut down on spending in this area.

cue long spiel about how i should spend *more* money. i explain politley that we will be reducing our advert size and placing it in fewer books.

more speil.

agree a new size for the advert. i explain that i will be getting my own artwork done as i used theirs last year and it's sh*te. more spiel about how their designers know the market blah blah blah.

anyway - she says that she will come back in a couple of weeks after i've had time to *think about it*. she does this and more speil ensues. i politley curtail the conversation; give her the artwork that i want to use and tell her which books i want it to go in. she makes out the order - i sign without bothering to check and she leaves. a while later i take the order to our accounts guy and while doing this notice that she's made it for the biggest advert size that we had last year to go into all the books i have asked for, rather than the new size which my artwork showed. a mistake? i think not. i phoned her mobile and she put me thru to answer - i left a message which she didn't repsond to.

i will be leaving many more messages tomorrow

Paulr - I guess everyones experience is different but I would not use Direct Line again if they were the last insurance company on the planet, and will not use Tesco as they are Direct Line in disguise.

My wife got a CCJ as we got an expensive phone bill and the threat of baliffs as a result of Direct Lines complete incompetancy - I can give full story if people want to hear.

Pete,

Glad it's sorted, but you may like to know this for the future - or you may already know it...

Any financial product bought remotely has a 14 day cooling off period. You can cancel the product within 14 days and pay nothing. It's a legal right that you have.

Insurance is a financial product.

Cheers,
Nick.
