Question

I have a small hole in the downpipes to my exhaust. It is literally 1/2cm across, but I think its enough, as my exhaust backfires crazily!

I've decided to weld it, or get it welded, as its an import bike and an exhaust is very expensive.

However, I've never done it before, and I'm a little baffled. What is the difference between an arc and a mig welder? Which is easier to use? Where can I buy cheap ones?

Please help, as its popping a fair bit!

Thanks
Damian

Mig = Metal inert gas. It's a form of arc welding

It's also the easiest as it supplies the gas, metal and electric at the single pull of a trigger.

Only other welding I've done is Oxy-Acetalyne (sp) which is a bugger in comparison.

Arc welders blow big holes in things.
Mig welders blow smaller holes, or attach hot birds nests to things.

Seriously, if you don't have any experience of welding, your expensive exhaust is not the thing to be practicing on.

Any small engineering shop will patch it up for less than the hire of the kit.
