Got Stopped for "Over Cautious Driving"
#1
Coming home late on Wednesday from work about midnight, pull into town off the motorway and spot the fuzz in the V70 behind me.
Slow down to 40mph and then down to 30mph where the signs say.
Go about another 200 yards, blue lights, etc...
Copper gets out and after a brief exchange says " Do you know why I pulled you over"
No idea I reply.
" You were driving over-cautiously" FFS
" Well how am I supposed to drive with a police car behind me"
No answer to that tough question. If he had said lots of these get nicked and we are just checking, I would have been fine, thought they were doing me a favour(in a strange sort of way)
But no, then get the 3rd degree about Nova boyracers (i'm 35) and its a bit late have you been drinking Sir blar blar blar
What a complete waste of my time and their's.

So you moan when they don't find your stolen cars with the thieves in them and you moan if they pull you up to check it hasn't been stolen and you're not the thief in it?
When will the Government learn? We need psychic coppers but not so psychic that they can do us for laws we don't agree with.
[homer]In case you hadn't noticed, I was being sarcastic[/homer]

It's a reference to Hawaii Five-0, which was an American TV series about police in, you've guessed it; Hawaii!
Accelerating too rapidly to the speed limit? Unless you're weaving about all over the place, what's wrong with accelerating to the speed limit?

You wouldn't complain if some low life had just nicked your car and was driving instead of you. Luckly you didn't give them any lip - otherwise they would have nicked you.

You can only get done for doing something illegal. So ask them what is was you did wrong that was illegal. Accelerating quickly is not an offence, driving cautiously is certainly not an offence.
I'd give the plod the beneift of the doubt but if I was told the above then I'd ask to speak to their superiors asking why I was pulled. If it was a spot check then they'll ask if you're the owner etc. which they can do anyway. To make up 'driving overcautiously' is NOT checking to see if the car was nicked, it's just a cop being silly.
Ask for their number (and their assistant, there's normally at least one other. this is important as the other will quite happily play along but will not want to become involved if no offence has taken place!)

Your driving a scooby cautiously, with some of the stories on here, I'd be suspicious if I saw you
Seriously, I'd be happy to be pulled if it means they're paying more attention to scoobs, you'd be rather upset if you found out that a police car had followed your car and not stopped it if it got nicked..

put youself in a cops situation. subaru's are disirable and often stolen cars. cops know this. if any car out early in the morning is seen it arouses suspicipon, because most roads are quieter at night and the majority of us are in bed. so the possibilities. -- could be stolen, you could be drunk or off to commit crime. etc..
your cautious driving again attracts attention. especially at night when its quiet.
if the officer is polite and doesnt keep ypu to long then you shouldnt have a problem. he is just checking that everthing is in order.

I think any scooby owner is happy to be spot checked at any time, and would thank the copper for doing it - but being stopped for driving within the speed limit and being read the riot act as a consequence is out of order.

Does having a stripe down the length of the car with the word - SPORT at the end of it make me a likely target?
Seriously, how and when can you get done for this?

a) have a ludicrously fast car, such as a Caterham R500 or crazy Westfield
b) wait until a jobsworth plod is training a newbie right behind you
c) find a slip road
d) don't actually break the law, just go so fast to 70 the plod behind is speechless and doesn't know what on earth to do.He assumes that accelaration that quick can't be right so he pulls you
e) then listen to him waffle on until to merrily go on your way

Get over it mate - if you were a copper it is what you would do.
When it happens to me, we usually have a chat whilst they await their ownership checks & and then a friendly wave goodbye. I am then more secure that -
a) I might get off speeding next time (as usual) cos I havent been coming over as a resentful incovenienced tosser to the cop
b) The more Scoobys they check the less likely it is to be nicked or the more likely it is to be recovered if nicked.
[The less benevolent side of me however says that I'd rather thieves crashed it into a tree and died in it than got to enjoy my lovely car for days...]
The 'reason' for stopping you is an excuse - they need legally need an 'excuse' to stop you. Its worth the hassle.

Strangely I never get pulled whilst driving fancy cars I always get pulled driving mundane crap.
The one was a Rover 216 to which they said...I looked to young to driving that sort of car (so how old do I need to look to drive my scoob?)- I got into more trouble when I started luaghing at that comment, as I was driving a Bentley about 3 hours earlier, the thought of being to young to drive a Rover was just plain daft!
Next was an Escort, where they insisted that I'd should tell them where the "wakky bakky" is
And then a Nissan sunny as it was'nt on the National insurers database... 3months before it was officially put into action! But why the hell did they want to check the reg anyway (followed me for 3 miles)? No excuse.. as usual
Bear in mind, I never did anything wrong on any of the above, and never got a valid reason for stopping me
