My uncle was done for speeding last weekend on the Settle by-pass whilst going to the lakes - £60 3pts.
He was doing 84mph in his Accord Type R (in red so easy to spot :rolleyes . He is an ex amateur rally driver and does tend to make good progress, so it was no surprise for him to be done, though it was early morning, quiet, and more than appropriate etc.
However... when the coppers stopped him and started giving out the ticket, a BBC film crew jumped out and started filming round his car, and panning in on the Type R badges.
Apparently they are filming a series on speeding bikers and drivers or something. My uncle told them they could show his car on TV but had to cover the plate.

PS He was stopped by a marked Scoob - or 'the' marked Scoob (the fat **** we met on Dales Run 2 for the Northerners)

DW,
that Settle bypass is a deathtrap. Obviously not a purpose built section of road, but a historical narrow cattle track, only fit for horses and cows.
Much safer to do 84mph straight through the centre of town
Sounds like a nice, no-brain-required, TV article coming along - who knows how it will be dressed up?

The bypass isn't that bad, but it does provide easy pickings for the local plod. They're always out in force on a Sunday ~ looking for bikers on their way to / from Devils Bridge.
Always be careful between Settle and Kirby Lonsdale, and watch out for the unmarked Impreza

Not quite as local as you Bob, but I've heard of some nasty head-ons on that bypass on the two corners due to people taking risks on a wide but not wide enough road...therefore loads of Police attention.
